And, IMHO, a separate files section as the current flavors of the Philips and Marantz software don't allow sharing of PCFs. I have not heard anything about convergence of the software to support image conversions, etc.. Do you know anything else.

I second that motion. The Pronto NG (TSU3000/RU950) should have a forum separate from the ProntoPro NG (TSU7000/RU980) These devices have separate features, firmware, and PE-NG editors, so it's time to separate the forums as well.

I don't think separate file areas are needed since the "non-compatibility" of PCF files isn't actually absolute and is easily corrected.

As for forums... it was never a problem for the Pronto / ProntoPro, and I'm still hopeful that Philips will merge the two NG programs at some point (there's so little reason for them to remain separate). Although I guess less hopeful than I was a year ago.

Daniel,

I too am optimistic. However, with releases coming out almost every 6 months to 1 year, I have to wonder if they'll ever converge.

I still would like to see variables and some other things before they move on. With the intro of this newest non-pc remote, I have to wonder what the End Of Life is for the 3000 and 7000? We've only had the 7000 for 1 year so I expect it to live at least 2-3 more years.

You know, somewhere, probably in this forum, I had the lifespan of all the original Pronto & Marantz models... hmm, I should look for it.

Edit: ah, here we go... [Link: remotecentral.com]

If Philips "moves on" from pc based remotes do to market demand are there shops/individuals out there who can repair the Pronto 7000 for at least 5-6 years?

Daniel: cool table

yes, but most stuff are the same. Anyone that used one editor can help someone with questions on the other. I am not big in dividing effort, just look at it this way, most of the people with experience here have a 7000, either they will stick to the 7000 forum and the 3000 users will be at a loss or they will visit two forums

me too

I don't think they will drop the PC based remotes, I don't know the market, but it is the one they created and look at all the players in it now and don't forget they are probably still the king of the touchscreen market.
