Are you learning the codes directly with the Pronto or are you using the ProntoNG Edit software?

When pressing the button on your cable remote, keep it pressed until the software confirms it has captured it successfully.

Take a look here [Link: remotecentral.com] and try to identify the cable box model you have. Chances are someone has this in .pcf file for you to download and try.

Are you sure its an IR controller? There are help FAQ's on this site explaining how to learn problem codes, but I'm not sure that will help you if it won't learn anything. Try learning using the software, that way you can see the HEX codes received by the Pronto. Hopefully you should see some codes, that would be a start at least. If you still have nothing, try learning a code from one of your other remote controls, just to verify your Pronto is still working.
