i am currently using a slinke to send IR signals to my equipment via cinemar's DVDLobby. for some reason i cant get my pronto to learn one of the IR codes. so i am wondering if there is a way to cut/paste it into prontoedit. when i go into the slinke device file (.cde) and grab the string 1s and 0s for the command and paste it into prontoedit it says invalid IR code. is there any way to do this?

It's been a while but I can probably convert the command for you. For starters, what command from what piece of eqipment are you trying to convert to Pronto hex?

What is the SlinkE code? What device file is it from? What code exactly.

Might help if you could also post the equipment you are trying to send to.

FYI, to paste Hex IR code data, you must be editing the PCF in Advanced Mode.

I can point you to the exact code if you paste the content of the CDE here as well as the function # you are having trouble with.

More than likely, if a Sony DVD Changer, the code is already in my Sony DVD Changer CCF package (SonyDVDAll.zip) in the Pronto Files section. However, the function codes in my CCF are in hexadecimal and the CDE files will most likely have a comment with the function code in decimal.

ok so the equipment i am controlling is a Radio Shack Remote Control A/V Selector. doesnt seem to have a model number anywhere on it. the way it works is you teach the av switcher a IR command for each input. so i just grabbed some random cde file (i cant remember what equipment it was originally for) and used the codes from that. i used the slinke software to send the IR via stick on emitters to the av switcher to teach it the commands. then i learned the commands with the pronto from the stick on emitter.

problem is that there is one that it just wont learn.

the cde file has this ir code for it:
010000010000101000010011111011001

perhaps it just needs to be converted to hex? is there a utility somewhere to do this?

when i paste it into prontoedit (advanced mode) it says invalid IR code.

Sure it's invalid. Since the data is only 1's and 0's with no timing information etc, the remote can't do a thing with it.

As I asked before, please post the contents of or email me the CDE as my current SlinkE software has no Radio Shack CDE files. I'll then see what recommendations I can make. If you are just grabbing CDE's, marking em up and then hoping they work, I fear that you may be on your own here or may need the help of someone like John Fine (JohnsFine).

OK. Now I understand what you did. You just needed a bogus set of IR codes to send to teach your switcher the various input signals. Do this. Go to the Pronto Files section and download my Sony CD or DVD Changer CCF file (both of em have command modes 1-3). Heck, you don't have to use my codes. In fact, I'd suggest you pick a CCF file for equipment you don't own, grab 4-5 codes (however many you need) and retrain your switcher. This approach will work fine if you don't plan to use DVDLobby or other Slinke stuff. I suggest the Sony codes as there is are Slinke device readily available with the software.

That's a heck of a lot easier than reverse engineering a slinke CDE file and a lot less time consuming for me. It would take me 1-2 hours to setup my slinke and write a small VB program to use this CDE simply to relearn codes into my Marantz 9200/5000i to post here.

Does that work for you?

ok so that sounds like it would work but looking back at it here is the problem i had. i can use the slink-e ezLearn software to learn IR codes into a cde file. but the problem is i have is (if i remember correctly) for DVDLobby to properly send the commands from within DVDlobby, the cde file had to be in TX/RX (advanced) mode which required the correct settings for Carrier (Hz), Sleep, and patterns Fields and i have no idea what to put in there. if i just leave them as default they don't work. so the problem is that if i use a ccf file for a random device then it will work with the pronto, and the pronto can control the avSwitcher but DVDlobby cannot.

that is why i did it the other way around at first - getting a random CDE file and then trying to teach the signals from the IR blaster into the pronto.

what may help is if there were some way i could find out what to put for all the advanced settings in EZlearn for whatever ir signals i end up using.

there are a bunch of cde files that came with the slinke software and i am browsing through them, and trying to find a device (which i dont own or plan to own) which has a ccf in the files section of RC for the same exact model. not having much luck so far.

this really ought to be easier.

Email John Fine ( JohnsFine). Maybe he can help quickly translate the CDE into something you need.

Hi Bdee1!!

Your slinke codes are in simple binary. Your PC (which I assume you have if you use ProntoEdit), has a built-in binary to hexadecimal converter. Simply go to Programs | Accessories | Calculator and set it to Scientific mode. Click the Bin radio button and copy and paste a line of the binary data in your post into the calculator display, then click the Hex radio button to convert it. Most IR codes have spaces between each set of 4 digits I believe, so you can just add those.

Of course, if the Pronto uses a proprietary conversion of IR codes, you will still need somebody to convert those for ya.

Hope this helps!!

Dawg,

I did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday. Yes, I too know that binary to hex conversion can be done with Calc.exe. However, this data, if converted to hex is still useless to ProntoPro Edit NG. Hence, I suggested the enlistment of John Fine's help.

Hi Lyndel! Sorry, didn't mean to suggest that anyone didn't know, just thought I'd mention it (hey ya never know).

I guess I'm a young turnip still tumbling after my fall from the truck... LOL!!!
I better wait on the shoulder for something to turn-ip, err, turn up...

Oh heck, see? I can't even crack a decent joke! :)

All the best,

It's the NEC1 protocol.

Just use MakeHex. Open NEC1.irp in Notepad, set device=130.180
(function=0..255 should alreay be set), save and drop NEC1.irp onto makehex.exe. NEC1.hex will be created in the same directory and will have all 256 commands. The three digit numbers in the left column are function numbers. You can copy the text exactly from NEC1.hex and drop it into IRPanels aka CCFPanels and create an instant ccf file and import it. It will have 256 buttons that correspond to the function numbers.

BTW, the one you can't learn is the last commannd that you labeled 5 but it is clearly 9 since you already have a 5 and all the numerals line up :-)

ok so what is makehex? and where do i get NEC1.irp? i am not sure what you are talking about in that part.

and yes i did relabel 9 and 5 thinking that since i couldnt get the pronto to learn the code for 5 i might have better luck with 9. but it didnt work. its weird that it was able to learn 1 2 and 3.
