I'm looking for a remote that will control the following devices:

- Samsung HL-P5063W DLP HDTV
- Dish Network 811 receiver (RF, I believe. Hoping to upgrade to a Dish Network 922 in latter half of 2005)
- Toshiba SD-3960 DVD player
- Sony STR-DE875 6.1 receiver
- Denon DCM-340 CD player
- Hitachi F382 VCR

I've heard good things about both the Harmony/Logitech remotes and the Home Theater Master remotes. I'm also looking into PDA-based applications like Total Remote. Not too familiar with the Philips Pronto.

I'm totally new to universal remotes, so I have no idea whether any or all of these potential remote choices will work with the above equipment, especially the RF Dish Network 811 receiver.

One thing I like about the H/L models is the ability for a family member to simply press "Watch TV", "Watch DVD", "Listen to CD", etc. buttons and have the remote handle all of the details. Can other remotes be setup to do this, too?

I appreciate any assistance and comments!

There are a ton of other MUCH more advanced people on this forum that can give you more advice than I. But I saw your post and thought you may like any input. I have used a Pronto for about 5 years now. I LOVE THEM.

I control:
Onkyo Receiver
Dual Tuner DVR Digital Cable Box
HDMI DVD Player
Several X10 Lights and appliances

I have my remote setup for my wife just as you describe. I have a main menu that has: Watch TV; Play XBox; Listen to Music; Watch Movie. She just touches the display and it sets all of the devices to the correct setting - then jumps her to another page that has specific controls for what she selected. I use the Pronto NG TSU3000 right now and have just added the RF to IR module so I can change settings from any room in my house. I don't think that you will be disappointed.

There is not much you cannot do with a Pronto. The 7000 is awesome and the 3000 is nice too, but the screen brightness leaves a bit to be desired.

Lots of help on this great forum and also via the Ultimate Pronto Guide. www.ProntoGuide.com
