Hey all, new around here. Just got my 7000 today, already updated to the latest firmware.

Having some trouble getting it to learn my codes. The devices remote works fine, but when I try to learn it, it says it learned the code, but it doesn't work. It's like it's not learning the whole code. To make it worse, most of my equipment is by magnavox/philips, even the 'universal' codes in the remote don't work. You'd think they would at least have their own products listed!

Anyway, what can I do to make it learn the whole/correct code?

I guess it is time for me to give back. Well you have a long journey in front of you to get your pronto up and running, you can take short cuts or go all out and redesign you whole system.

First when asking questions to us on this forum, we are here to help, but you need to put more of the question matter into the subject heading.

Second, get used to the seach forum areas. You will find that most of the questions you have will have already been asked and answered. This way you can get immediate response.

Third, download the sample pcfs and run the emulators on them to see what you like, graphically, and see what works structurally (sp?)

And then post, but for the immediate question, you may need to clarify. Are you talking about the learning of a whole device or the learning of certain buttons on a page?

If it is button learning, pay attention to the actual process of learning:
Keep the remotes away from metal and mirrors (reflective surfaces) this eliminates code feedback. Do not have any flourescent lights on. They get in the way of code learning. Keep the plasma tv's off -there are known issues with them interruptiong codes.

You will get the idea. I have posted a link to my page - being anal retentive - I kept my pcf configuration structually sound. (At least I thing it is)

Just click on the image to download my pcf.

Learing checkpoints are:

About 4" apart. Avoid bright overhead lights and fluorescent lights. Don't have the Pronto looking at a bright window in the learning process. Try varying the amount of time you hold the button to be learned. Lately, I notice the 7000 likes a short pulse, such as 1001-1002 cadence and let go. Otherwise, try holding it until the learn windows closes.

You should also read the FAQ - lots of useful info.

I've read most everything here (I was browsing for 2 weeks before I bought one), but thanks for the tips!

I'm thinking now that maybe the device I want to control (a dual tape deck( isn't responding to the remote, as it won't turn off/on with the original remote either now. Never acured to me that the deck might not be working...

So, on to other things...

Can the 'device' listing be disabled? I hid all the devices, but the page still comes up, it's blank now, but I don't want the page to show at all.

edit:
you can dl my pcf from pendragon.pcf

Just remove it from the System page.

How do I do that, according the the editor (in advanced mode), the device and page overview templates cannot be removed. Even if you hide the devices, and delete on the buttons on the template, the page still shows.

Actually, I played around with it after that post, I just deleted all the system icons, except time, battery and date. I'll just have to code those in on my pages as I need them.

Now, if I can figure out how to change the activity icon to a small LED type graphic instead of the huge imbedded icon..

Most of us eliminate it altogether. Changing a system icon involves editing the XML program code. If you know what you are doing, it can be done - see numerous posts on this forum.

I layered my activity icon so that only the green rings show. Play around with layering your buttons and images and you can get some cool effects.

You should put system items on the system page and they will punch through to all of the other pages automatically. However, they cannot be modified on any of the other Device pages.

If you want to get rid of the "pulsing" pronto icon, in the standard config, it is actually two icons, one over the other. Just delete the top one and you will have one other below that. The pulsing icon uses a lot of cycles and makes the remote run slow. Leave the bottom one so you can still access the tools menu.

Leave the Device Overview page alone as it is created automatically by the system, for all of your devices. If you add an home page, the remote will then boot to your home page and you can put only the devices you want on the home page. There is always a lot of confusion about folks trying to use the Device Overiew page as their home page. You can do a lot better if you create your own home page.

Good Luck!

I've edited the xml file to use my own custom icon, works just as I wanted now!

I just got tired of the devices page coming up, even when all devices where hidden.. So, I removed the controls that allowed the page to show, and made my own navigation items.

Now, if I could get tetris on this thing... :)
