not having used one before, does anyone know how far the ir part of it works, is it as powerfull as the Pronto, can it operate devices across a room, or is it really only good in a cupboard at close range?

Iain.

People have indicated it works from as much as 100 ft away. I'm also considering purchasing one. I also have a question though. Does anyone know if the response time is delayed compared to using it in IR mode. I want to switch so that I can control my whole house audio system without having to be in the same room as the equipment, but don't want slower action the majority of the time when I'm in the theater room. If there is significant delays, I may choose to purchase a second pronto for the rest of the house and leave the one in the theater room configured for IR. TIA

Althought the extender will work far away from the Pronto itself, the IR signal it sends is not very strong - in my experience the specified 12 ft. is about max. (no where near the strength of the Pronto itself.) and sensitive to aiming. Definately designed to be closer to the equipment.

I have mine installed about 10' from my system mounted flat and pointing down on a beam running through the room at 7.5' height. This works reliably with a spread about 6' wide and 6' down at 10' distance (not a wide spread compared to the pronto).

John, any added delay as compared to using the Pronto via IR. Also, does it have to work head on or does a slight angle work. I'm hoping to mount it under a coffee table aiming up at a distance of about 8 feet from the equipment and about a 20 degree angle to the equipment. I'm kind of in a jam otherwise as I cannot mount it to the ceiling and run the power cord (it would need to be mounted smack in front of a window) and the entertainment center is directly opposite the sofa, so I cannot mount it at eye level. Too bad these things are not battery operated (I'm assuming it's not, although I WISH TO GOD IT WAS). I could then mount it to the ceiling in a perfect location.

Don't forget that it comes with those plug-in and snap on ir emitters that can control up to 16 devices if you want to hard wire your Ir connections.

When I first installed mine, I did notice a lag time, but when they upgraded the firmware ... it became very fast, reliable and un-noticeable. I can control my devices from outside on a dock 50+ feet away through concrete block walls and metal and glass doors.

I am very satisfied.

Which firmware upgrade are you referring to. I'm going to pass on installing 3.1.15. Had too many problems for me. Any way to hook up with batteries?? I'd sure like to mount it to the ceiling and not have to bother with stick on emitters.

tsu 7000 last firmware and software upgrades. Un f...g real! Why would you pass? If you have problems its because of your codes.

I have noticed migration problems between the tsu6000 to the tsu7000. And so I started over, from scratch. It really was not that hard. It actually took less time because of templating and copying. Now I have this old tsu6000 that I do not want to do anything with. But probably will.

I'm using the TSU 3000. If you read all the posts and back and forth, there's been some substantial problems with the new release and to be honest, the added benefits are not important to me. I don't have memory or battery issues, which were two of the big reasons for the release. In addition, my codes were fine, but I have many macros running and with the new release, you need to add many 0.5 second delays between comands, so any speed that you'd gain by the new firmware update would be offset by the added delays in the macros. Finally, I have set the left bottom hardbutton to new commands on virtually all screens. The only screen where I left the old "tools" button in that position was on the system setup screen. Well with the new release, you cannot change (or I was not able to override) the tools button so it appeared on every device (not my preference) and it was also no longer available on the system screen, so it was difficult to get to the learn comands at all. To be honest, I've invested so much in my configuration that I didn't see the point of inserting all these delays and having to reconfigure virtually every device for improved contrast control (would be good but not critical), improved speed (as I said, offset by added delays in macros), added memory (I'm running at 87% free now so what's the point), and improved battery (I use a docking station and have no problems with battery life even if I'm using the remote for 8-10 hours with TiVO, DVD, etc.). So, I'll just wait for the next update and that will hopefully solve some of the bugs with the current one.
