Hello!

Here is my situation! I have a Kenwood VR-4900 which is Kenwood's top of the line receiver from 2000. It came with a proprietary RF touch screen remote which was broken this past week. The problem I have now is that the VR-4900 has only a RF sensor built into it, it doesn't have the on-board facilities to receive IR. It does however have a rear IR data jack in the back of it.

So I've been looking into replacing my remote control with a Pronto, but the next question is which one? I've looked at the TSU3000, 6000 and 7000, because they all have RF out and with that RF out I could connect the IR flooder output directly into my receiver's IR jack. Mainly I want to know how well the RF devices work for the Pronto systems and the major differences between the 6000 and the 7000!

If anyone could lend me some help that would be fantastic!

The 6000 was superceded by the 7000 well over a year ago. You can only buy refurbushed units now.

The 7000 is far superior to the 6000. It has brilliant color, supports transparency (very important) and is easier to use and set up.

The RF capability is identical - they all use the same RF extender.

Is it worth the extra money over the 6000 if you can find a new in box 6000 for around $200 less?

How well does the RF work? Do many people have problems with it?

The 7000 is defintely much superior to the 6000. Once you've used a 7000 you wouldn't consider a 6000 at all.

When RF works, it works great. Some people have trouble, usually caused by some form of interference.

I was having some trouble. The extender was sitting on top of a subwoofer in front of the equipment, and sometimes it would only worked if the Pronto was a few cm from the extender. Moved the subwoofer, and put it on top of a pile of DVDs, and it hasn't played up since.

I have a question... because of the nature of my setup I'm curious to know if the ProntoPros emit IR and RF at the same time or if turning on the RF mode disables IR, because I'm going to be using this in plain sight, however I just have that whole IR issue with my receiver!

You can have some devices using IR and some using RF. Macros can include links to both IR operated devices and RF operated devices.

[Note that IR and RF are not transmitted simultaneously, just one IR or RF code after the other]

just read the initialpost, none of the RF remotes will work in RF with equipment. The RF is meant to work with an RF base and the RF base sends an IR command

I've been assuming that he wants to use the RF Extender together with an IR emitter cable to connect to the IR jack at the rear of his receiver. And that he is assuming that is the purpose of the IR jack.

Peter! Yes! That is the case! I understand that the RF remote will not -directly- control my receiver with it's RF signal, but that the IR signal from the Pronto's RF to IR converter will send the IR signal to the rear data jack of my receiver!! Haha! That's compicated to state!

Peter, I think you are right I read

Macros can include links to both IR operated devices and RF operated devices.

and then went back and read

It came with a proprietary RF touch screen remote

so I thought he was looking for RF control, guess I should have re read the whole first post :-)

duderiffic: yes, the Pronto cann send IR to one device and RF to an other even in the same macro. When you learn or use the iR DB originally you need to set them as IR or RF and then it does not matter where you link to them.

Wow!! That is just sweet! Because I'd rather not have flooders in front of all my devices... I'm just a college student and I have a pretty humble setup for a highish-end system, so I don't have large fancy cabinets to hide all my components!! Do you guys have any recommendations on where to get the best price on a the RFX6000 and a 7000 controller?
