New and looking for help.

I have Adelphia HD Cable with a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD tuner/recorder. I also continue to use my TiVo. (My wife is much more comfortable with the TiVo interface than with the SA unit.) My problem is that Adelphia has the SA box configured to turn off the picture each night from 1 am through 6 am unless it receives some signal from the control unit about once an hour.

I'm planning on purchasing a universal remote with macro capability to simplify use of my equipment. I am hoping to get a unit that can be programmed to emit an innocuous command to the Adelphia SA box to keep it awake through the night so the TiVo can record. I'm strongly considering the Pronto NG TSU3000 and wonder if it can do this?

the 3000 has timers, so it can send a command. Someone had even created a Clock CCF for the old Prontos that would chime the time every hour (or was it half hour)

Easy with the Pronto. Just create six timers that run every day at 1AM, 2AM, 3AM, etc., and have it send some sort of command.

That's a real nasty "feature" though. Who are they to dictate when YOU have your cable box on? :-P

Not familiar with timers on the TSU3000. How do you create them??

I thought timers might the the solution and am glad to have that confirmed. However, the feature summary sheet on this site indicates that the TSU3000 does not have timers while the 7000 does. Can someone confirm this situation for me. Thanks.

The last (or the one previous) updated firmware added timer functions to the tsu3000.
It's been a while since I set this up, but IIRC, you have to hold down the tools icon on the main page until it opens up a second page where you can, among other things, set up timers to do just about anything you want at any given set time, including activate macros. AFAIK, there is no limit to the number of timers you can create.

they both have them. The 3000 did not have them originally and they were added latter, the spec sheet on the site might be a bit out of date. That is the one bad thing with PC programmable and updateable remotes and reviews, they can fall out of date easily.

Thanks for the additional info. Just what I needed. I'm off to buy the 3000.
