i have been trying to install prontoedit ng 2.0.9 on a windows xp pro system.
after the installer run's i try to run the app and i get the message, "Could not load
information from the registry. The application is not installed properly! Please reinstall
the application." if i set the program to run in compatibility mode to win 98, the
program will start, but is unstable, and i can't switch to advance mode either.
i am the admin on this system, so that should not be an issue, you would think.
i have norton system works and internet security 2005 running, but have also disabled them and get the same results. and i have run the un-installer, and add and remove
programs from the control panel, and have cleaned the registry in between all of this also. help me please.

It does sound like you don't have administrator rights to the PC.

Can you tell me what it is exactly that you've cleaned in the registry?
Can you try removing the following keys from the registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\0704C895FF634A74FBE40F109F44158B
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProntoEdit NG.ConfigurationFile
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\0704C895FF634A74FBE40F109F44158B
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProntoEdit NG.ConfigurationFile
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\InstallShield_{598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield Uninstall Information\{598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8}
Also delete the string value C:\WINNT\Installer\{598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8}\ under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders

Also make sure to remove the installation directory.
If this still doesn't work, then I am afraid that you will have to search and remove all keys and values containing "598C4070-36FF-47A4-BF4E-F001F94451B8" or "0704C895FF634A74FBE40F109F44158B"

I am getting the same problem as lightwaveguy. I am running XP home edition V2002
SP1. Is this a common hack?

Also... Does anyone else out there think it odd that the extensive brand (component) list on board the 3000 doesn't include AV receivers?

Confused newbie

Re A/V receivers: you have to look under "Tuner" or "Preamp".

Right, I was just surprised that the most popular form of controlling and switching (and amplifying) peice of home entertainment equip (the AV receiver) was not included in the D/B....

On my other issue I'm dead in the water without PENG.
The other posts imply this prob is non-admin priv related.
I am using XP home and am "owner"; do I have admin priv?

Thanks, I am really anxious to get going on this

I de-installed V2.09 and checked the reg (was clean) then installed V2.06

Same prob when launching:

"Could not load
information from the registry. The application is not installed properly! Please reinstall
the application."

XP Home edition SP1 HP Pavilion a324x

I'm probably overlooking something really stupid....

OK it looks like PENG doesn't like:

XP Home edition SP1
or
HP pavilion a324x

because it works on XP Pro SP1 on a laptop Compaq 610c arrrgggg.

Is this stiuff really this fussy?

I'm running Win XP Pro SP2 and have had similar issues when I reinstalled 2.0.9 after playing with older versions on ProntoEdit NG. I guess the standard answer with any software thats being problematic is:
- Deinstall using ProntoEditNG Uninstall option under the program group (not using Control Panel - Add/Remove)
- Verify the program directories C:\Program Files\Philips\ProntoEdit NG etc have been removed, and if so delete them manually.
- Open the regitsty (Regedit) and search for Pronto and remove all keys.
- Reboot just in case ;)
- Verify you are defined as Administrator
- Switch off all virus monitoring as these can interupt vital registry entries during the installation
- Close all apps before installing 2.0.9.

Hope that helps
