LowPro,
This thread is exactly what I have been looking
for. I do not yet own the remote but plan on
purchasing it in a month or so. In the meantime,
I'd like to do what I can in the meantime to have
my dvd collection ready when I get the remote.
I already have DVD Profiler but I am going to
renumber everything in it in alpha order. Can
you explain what all I should do to prepare everything
so that I can just load your pcf when I get the
remote? Do I just need to assign each dvd a slot
number in profiler? If so, where do you access
that at?

You are on the right track. As you will see when viewing my DVD Profile I have a collection ID for each individual disc in my collection. When I first purchased and loaded my changers I had 885 discs. This is why the first 885 collection ID's of my DVD Profile are in alphabetical order. I had reordered my collection ID's by title in addition to ensuring each physical disc in my collection had it's own collection ID in DVD Profiler. This allowed me to then load the discs in my changers by collection ID.

Collection ID's 0001-0400 = Changer 01 (Slots 1-400)
Collection ID's 0401-0800 = Changer 02 (Slots 1-400)
Collection ID's 0801-1200 = Changer 03 (Slots 1-400)
Collection ID's 1201-1600 = Changer 04 (Slots 1-400)

Note as well that from collection ID 886 of my DVD Profile on down note I've simply allowed DVD Profiler to assign each new disc I've purchased the next collection ID. Said disc is then loaded in the next available changer slot. The only reordering that happens after initially loading your changers is with regards to the DVD cover images in the editor for the remote. Keeping the DVD cover images in alphabetical order as you add new DVD's to your collection is a manual process. For more on that as well as what I've covered here please read carefully over this thread. It's all detailed here. This post in particular covers much of what I've outlined here, but referencing the use of an excel sheet rather than DVD Profiler. Below I've also detailed the steps for you to follow when getting your DVD Profile up to speed and DVD's staged to be loaded in your changer(s).

Step 1: Reorder your collection ID's in DVD Profiler by title. This can be done via "Collection\Reassign Collection Numbers\Reassign all collection numbers\Order by Title".
Step 2: Check over your reordered list making sure there are no titles sorted improperly. If there are right click on said titles and choose, "Personalize" where you can edit the "Sort Title" field.
Step 3: Place all your DVD discs in alphabetical order.
Step 4: Start with your first DVD matching each up against your DVD Profile making any needed corrections to the physical order of your DVD's or to your DVD Profile along the way. If a given title includes more than one disc actively edit your DVD Profile to include those additional discs, then resort your collection ID's by title once again. (Details on how to do this can be found here.) If you run into a disc not in your DVD Profile add it of course, always resorting your collection ID's by title afterwards. As you go I'd also recommend that you make sure each disc is facing the proper way in it's DVD case. I had lots of older DVD's which had full frame on one side, and widescreen on the other. My preference is widescreen. Having all my DVD's facing the right way in their cases made things much easier when the time came to load my changers.

Lowpro,
Recently in another thread the issue of a large number of pages in one device was discussed. I haven't had any working problems so far nor problems of it being too slow (ie, 400 pages for "Confirmation"). I am working on adding SEARCH BY TITLE and SEARCH BY ACTOR to my DVD Lobby....which effectively more than doubles the devices and pages. These two projected searches will use one consistant background and a simple button for text information. Do you see any trouble lying ahead? BTW, thanks again for all you do for the DVD collection junkies :).

I'm hoping when you're testing high-page-number-devices' speed you're doing it on the actual remote and not in the emulator :-)

Yes, Daniel...thanks. I was hoping to know if there is a threshold point...and I wasn't spending tons of time for nothing.

The major thing to watch out for is the number of pages per device. I try to limit to under 100 if at all possible. However, as you have seen, Lowpro runs over 400 pages in his devices without major problems.

I don't see any trouble ahead for you. If my 1600 disc confirmation pages (400 per changer device) are not slowing things down to any noticable degree I don't see how adding your SEARCH BY TITLE and SEARCH BY ACTOR are going to. Good luck with it. Once you've finished I'd love to see what you've done. Sounds cool.

For anyone that hasn't checked out my PCF download post in a few days I've put out a few small updates, including one today. Feel free to check it out if you like, accessible via the link in my signature area below.

Somewhere in Lowpro's posts there was a short review on Sony CX 995 and I remember that Frank wasn't impressed. I have two CX985's but I'm having trouble finding one on the net for under $300. Anyone know a site that has 'em? Thanks

Lowpro,

Great .pcf and finalizing it for my TSU7000. Thanks for all your efforts.

Wife and I, however, have "old eyes" and difficulty reading the covers in the 3X3 format.

Would you happen to have a 2X2 template laying around that you could post?

Tnx,
OldGolfGuy

oldgolfguy -

Being a unofficial Lowpro historian :-), I believe Lowpro started out with a page that was able to hold 16 jacket covers (52x74). He has modified/magnified to its current state of 9 jacs (72x100). I know of no others.

Possibly he can further assist you in your request?

wjjz106,

Thanks for input. about no-go for an existing 2X2.

I used GIMP to hack Lowpro's 3X3 into 2X2 and it's working fine.

Where do you think I could upload the .png in case anyone else would like to use it?

Great job on the 4 DVD cover images per page version of my frame overlay pic. For anyone that would like to go with 4 DVD cover images per page versus the 9 per page used in my PCF just right click on the image below and choose the "Save Picture As..." option.

Using this frame overlay pic the DVD cover images will need to be sized at 113x153. If you have the available memory in the remote and want to go with larger DVD covers 113x153 will definitely get the job done. I've also taken the liberty of posting this image under my PCF download thread accessible via the link in my signature line below for those that don't happen upon this reply.

Never mind. Lowpro has a much better solution.

Lowpro,
If you converted 1,000 covers in the 113x153 size how much memory would you use up in a TSU 7500 just on covers?
