I became a fan of the Marantz over the Pronto because of the BACK function, and their placement of the cursor pad as hard buttons totally won me over. I found designs easier to do when those elements were always available.
But I have done three RC5400 setups now. The first realloy does not count as it was an imported RC5200 program, modified as needed to work, while a 5200 was being repaired, so I did not tweak it to perfection.
The second one was rather straightforward, instantly worked perfectly. It used RF, and any complications that might have come up there simply did not.
The third one has been a total nightmare. I won't bore you.
Is anyone else out there programming these? Are you doing well, or having problems? How do you like the software?

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |

I have used Wizzit to make new templates (based on those stored in the remote) for my hi fi system (I previously had an RC5000 but decided to start again due to the higher resolution and greater screen area).
I found Wizzit worked a treat but that the RC5400 is way poorer at learning codes than the RC5000. In fact so many of the codes were dirty (poor with Arcam, very very poor with JVC and useless with B&O), I ended up importing my old RC5000 file and copying / pasting the codes accross to the new files. Very labour intensive but everthing now works like a charm.
Wizzit seems fine, the remote control works well though is a bit of a chunky beast, and if there is one more minor criticism, it is the very slight lag between pressing a button and getting a result (this has been picked up on before in other reviews).
