Good day,

I finally took the plunge and went from my RC5000 to a 3000 NG. I've started my setup from scratch (might as well!), but I've come across a 'glitch':

I've created a device called "Codes",and stuck in there a page for each of my remotes (Reciever, TiVO, etc.). I then learned the codes with the Pronto hooked up via the USB cable, and finally aliased (or linked) each button for the device to the approprately learned IR in my "Codes" device. The only thing is the codes don't work. Is this an issue with learning codes through the cable? Should I just D/L my code pages to the pronto, learn them direct there and the U/L & integrate them into my setup? I've not seen any problems regarding learning through the USB.

This'll be a bit of a rot since I spend the day doing all this. Oh well... live and learn, I guess.

Yes, I went from a TSU-2000 to the TSU-3000 and found that the 3000 will not learn as well as the TSU-2000. Also, some codes that the TSU-2000 learned, could not be learned at all by the 3000.

However, one trick I did to get the TSU-3000 to work was open the old TSU-2000 file in old version of ProntoEdit, copy the learned IR code hex-value (with control-c), then open the TSU-3000 file in the new version of Pronto-Edit and paste it into the IR-view window (with control-v)

If you are learning from the TSU-3000, then use the test IR feature to see if the learned code worked. Many times when learning from the TSU-3000, the code did not work the first time learned. Code scrubbers or not, the TSU-3000 does not learn as well as the TSU-2000 in my experience.

As a habit I always learn direct but there are a few things you should check. Do not learn with sunlight, strong flourescent or any halogen light in the room. Make sure the devices your linking to have IR codes. You can check with "View IR". Make sure the RF/IR is set properly. Make sure that your devices aren't set to template. Report back here with the results.

This is total BS. They had things working right and they "improved" them so they don't work!

I just had this problem and so many others with a Marantz RC5400 that I am considering never selling or programming another RC5400 but switching to the TSU3000. Any comments or suggestions?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hi Ernie,

After buying my 1st Tivo, an HD tivo, I was back into the learning mode after more than a year and I was frustrated! My theater has not changed until the Tivo so I did not have much experience with learning via the 7000, until today. I experimented and eventually found that a short press worked on the Tivo remote, Long presses never did work. Also, might be "silly me" but I tried to learn with the 7000 in its cradle and had very spotty results. So I took it out of the cradle and hooked the cable up directly to the 7000 and after discovering that "short" presses worked, the learning process went along quite well.

So, maybe it is me, not have had much learning experience with the 7000. However, I did get all of the codes in eventually.

The 7000 does seems to be very touchy in the learning process.

Two things Dave D'Arche mentioned I do: for no particular reason I always ust the remote out of the cradle when learning and I have found short button presses on the subject remote learn more reliably as well.

Ernie,

I can't figure out why you are selling the RC5400 anyway. The case is the same as the RC5200/9200 and IMHO sucks as you cannot have the remote on a flat surface and push the right buttons without the darned thing rocking back and forth. Also, the lack of the 4 buttons beneath the screen sucks.

Being an RC9200 user, I would not go with the RC5400. I would go the Philips route or with the MX-3000 simply for better screen specs and more buttons.

I think dealers prefer Marantz because of the companies policies and because of the reputation. Plus if they carry other stuff in the line it is just simpler to stick with it then dealing with more manufacturers
