I think I've pretty much decided which programmable remote control to buy and I've narrowed my choice down to two remotes - the 3000 or the 7000. I live in the UK, so I'll probably buy the UK equivalents.

One of the reasons I haven't bought one yet is because I heard there were battery problems and a relative slowness between each button press and transmission of the IR code.

I heard that there was an upgrade of the firmware of the 7000 recently and Philips did a lot of beta testing with users to try and avoid some of the problems of the original 3000.

Has the 3000 firmware been updated recently to make battery life better and key press to IR code sending better?

If I choose the 7000 then I might buy it when I visit the US in summer - anyone recommend a place to buy one in Washington DC?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

All of your questions have been addressed in this forum, some of them many times. Just do a search on the items of interest.

The 7000 firmware has not been updated since the release of the 7000. However, you are correct that there was significant beta testing. An update is due in Q3 this year.

The 3000 firmware was updated almost 2 months ago.

You should always buy a docking station to overcome battery issues.

The time delay issues have been addressed and further improvments can be made by removing the Activity icon which is drawn while IR Codes are being transmiteed and slows everything down.

Yes on both - but if you get the 3000 DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING IT WITHOUT THE DOCKING STATION!!

If you can afford either, get the 7000. Similiar functionality but the screen is much brighter and easier to see.

thanks for all your replies. I can't really justify 600GBP on a remote control, however, 200GBP seems more reasonable, so I'll buy a 3000 with a docking station. Thanks again. Any more suggestions/replies welcomed and much appreciated.

mburwen - I did think all the questions had been answered throughout the forum somewhere, and I knew someone would give the kind of answer you did, but I looked through about 5 pages of thread headers and couldn't see a summary of the issues anywhere; certainly none as well summarised as the answers subsequent to your message. Thanks for taking the time to reply, though.
