Can I replace the ATI all in wonder video card remote(that is RF) with the Philips TSU3000 Remote Control? Is that where the RF adapter accessory comes into play?

Thanks

No, off the shelf they're completely incompatible. (But as the old saying goes, where there's a will...)

The TSU3000 uses 418MHz RF while the RemoteWonder uses 433.92MHz.

It may be possible to tune the RemoteWonder receiver to 418MHz but it's hard to say without seeing it. If you can trace the circuit, it is probably possible to use a different 418MHz RF receiver module.

This would still require learning the codes in some manner from the original remote ([Link: mbx-usa.com]) and assumes that the RF preamble used by the TSU7000 would not confuse the RemoteWonder receiver. X-10 makes the RemoteWonder and they usually use NEC type protocols which will not be bothered by the preamble.

If someone will loan me their RemoteWonder I will capture the codes and see whether it can be adapted to 418Mhz.

Dave,

You seem trustworthy enough to me...I have a Remote Wonder that I use only rarely. It was included in my ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro video card I bought last year.

Let me know where to send it and I'll be glad to loan it to you for a while. Please e-mail me a street address (and not a PO Box, since I use FedEx to ship from my office). :)

...Forget sending me an e-mail. I've already sent you one via the address you have on file here. Just respond to that one and I'll get the remote out to you early next week.

Given that the RU950's RF runs at 433MHz, has anyone managed to get this unit working as a replacement for a remote wonder?

All you need is the codes. Remote Wonder is made by X-10 and uses a 20 bit code similar to what X-10 uses for their Ninja/Robocam. You can capture the codes using the methods described at [Link: mbx-usa.com]. I'll make the codes available in a week or so. Here's the Power button code.

0000 0068 0016 0000 009C 0018 0013 0044 0013 0044 0013 0043 0014 0018 0013 0018 0014 0043 0014 0043 0014 0044 0014 0017 0014 0018 0013 0018 0014 0017 0014 0018 0013 0019 0012 0044 0013 0018 0014 0018 0013 0018 0014 0017 0014 0044 0013 00D7

Let me know if it works.

An added note: The remote control for nVidia's Personnel Cinema is also RF on 433 and made by X-10. May have the same codes. The only company I found using the chip set is eVGA.

It will only lead to chaos if multiple RF devices respond to the same codes. That's already a real risk with Europe mandating 433.92MHz for everything.

There was a brief article (NYT, IIRC) a few days ago about a new radio communications system at an Air Force base in Florida jamming all the garage doors for miles around. There are likely to be many similar stories from Europe.

Yes - for a year ago, it was happens with one US antithief brand in presentation at Moscow: all the guarded cars unlocks when you send any SMS via common GSM operator :)

Once, IR communications evolves from 5-6 bit unmodulated signal into 32-bit NEC with binary compliment - it gives me a confidence in the same with RF: all the garage doors will obtain a Blue Tooth!
