Hi everyone,

I have a ProntoNG and have been attempting to input the discrete codes found in the "Files" section for a Mitsubishi big-screen TV, but have been having a strange problem.

This is what I am doing:

I learn any IR signal. Then I click the "View / Edit IR..." button and delete the code inside.

Then I copy the discrete code I want to use, (i.e. "Power On") and paste it into the "Edit IR Code" window. The code appears correctly in this window.

Then I hit "OK" on the "Edit IR Code" window, and then "OK" to the "Add IR Code" window.

Now here is the strange part. When I go back into the "Edit IR Code" window again to look at the code it has changed. For example:

Mitsubishi Power On: (correct code)

0000 007e 0008 0011 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 001e
000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 037d
000a 0046 000a 0046 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 001e
000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0046
000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0046
000a 001e 000a 037d

(changed code):

0000 007E 0008 0011 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E
000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 0376
000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E
000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046
000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046
000A 001E 000A 0376

If you look closely it is changing any part that has a "d" to a "6". I.E. the final part is originally "037d" but is "0376" when I go back in.

Any ideas what is causing this and whether it is going to work correctly? I do not have the TV yet but was hoping in the meantime maybe someone could explain if this is intentional by the ProntoEdit or not. Also, if anyone knows of any good sites to go and learn how the whole IR code language works it would be appreciated as I am interested in understanding it better.

Thanks for any help in advance

Another example:

Mitsu Power Off: (correct)

0000 007e 0000 0011 000a 0046 000a 0046 000a 0046
000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e
000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e
000a 001e 000a 0046 000a 001e 000a 0355

(Changed):

0000 007E 0000 0011 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0046
000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E
000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E
000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 0351

Here you will notice that the last digit has been changed from a 5 to a 1.

I was also wondering if perhaps I am going about it incorrectly. Is there a better way than learning any old code to get to the "Edit IR Code" window, and then deleting and changing it within?

Again, thanks for any help

On my first TSU3000 I ran into a similar problem but it was with the RF setting on the device not staying set. I had to scrupulously click OK and not close the window without doing so and make sure I was on the Actions page when I closed the button properties. It then stuck. This was on the original firmware.

Oh This is the same problem as I am getting, its the Philips Code Scrubber, it reads the HEX code and performs a Tidy up of the HEX, which normaly means that the new HEX is useless.

see: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I also got an email from Philips confirming that the PPENG software does tidy up the hex code for you. Which is useful!! (not).

Ed, a minor change in the last code is usually insignificant.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for all your replies. I just discovered today that there was a newer version of ProntoEditNG out and so I went to download it.

When I went to the ProntoEdit download area of the site I noticed under the "what's new..." section the following:

"Advanced code scrubber for better import of HEX codes"

"This function will automatically clean up dirty learned codes when CCF-files are imported. You may therefore see changes in the hex codes when you compare the codes of the CCF and the converted PCF file. This function is also present in the ProntoPro Editor."

However, the new version of ProntoEdit did not resolve my issue.

So it does appear to be intentional, however, I do not yet know whether it will "kill" the code or not. Hopefully it will not. It does seem a little strange to me that in this case it is not actually changing the size of the code (i.e. making it smaller or more efficient etc.), but is simply altering the code "lettering". Anyhow, I will let you know when I get my hands on the TV what it has done.

Thanks again

As I said, a change like you are getting is normal and is usually insignificant.

Ed I noticed this too with the hexcodes I copied and pasted. I was initialy concerned as you were but I have found that they all worked with the exception of my Sony preamp TA-e2000es(wrong code maybe). I got the code from the Pronto discretes page for 'Sony Preamps'. Does anybody have the discrete code for this preamp? Thanks
