Hi. Some here may rememeber me from a million years ago when there was only one Pronto model and I was active on this board.

My Pronto broke over three years ago and it's taken me this long to purchase a new one - a TSU7000 that I'm hoping will arrive by the end of this week.

I've been scrolling through the old posts, trying to get a feel for how much Pronto and CCF, er, PCF technologies have advanced, and I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer so I don't have to read through all those old threads.

1. I see that I can convert my old CCF file to a new PCF. Since my CCF is fairly complicated I'm wondering how smooth people have found this conversion to be.

2. I used to make extensive use of the CCF compiler and decompiler utilities. Are there any similar utilities for the new PCF files?

3. We used to dream about the day when we could do simple logic and variable setting and querying in our Prontos. Has that day arrived, or am I still doomed to create macros for every possible activity-to-activity change?

4. Is there a FAQ somewhere for people doing the type of conversion I'm about to start.

I guess that's it. I don't want to come in sounding like a complete newbie, though that's what I am when it comes to the current Pronto technology.

Thanks.

it should be OK, but chances are that you will probably want to redo 90%(colour icons, full screen.... ) anything considered user interface you will probably want to redo

2. I used to make extensive use of the CCF compiler and decompiler utilities. Are there any similar utilities for the new PCF files?

the PCF is a zipped file that contains an XML document and a folder with all the images. The only differences between a decompiled CCF and an unzipped PCF is that

1) the pcf has the system info and icons (so in theory you can change the way the battery.... look and are placed)

2) the XML document in a PCF is much more messy then the XML/text document produced by the decompiler

3. We used to dream about the day when we could do simple logic and variable setting and querying in our Prontos. Has that day arrived, or am I still doomed to create macros for every possible activity-to-activity change?

unfortunately no, a long time ago when Daniel first talked about the TSU-3000 he said that Philips planned to introduce simple conditional statements in the future, but the 3000 has been out for over a year now and still no conditional statements. On the other hand some of the stuff like multiple jumps and back, can sometimes help

4. Is there a FAQ somewhere for people doing the type of conversion I'm about to start.

no, all you do is open PPENG (editor) and click on import and then your CCF. Philips recommends to test the IR just in case the conversion failed. Then I would start changing the icons. And last move them.

I guess that's it. I don't want to come in sounding like a complete newbie, though that's what I am when it comes to the current Pronto technology.

don't worry even though PPENG is a bit different then PE you should know enough from the original Pronto to be able to move forward

also you can DL PPENG from the file section here, so you should be able to start even before the remote arrives

Hi Dave,

Welcome back! I remember you from quite awhile ago and recall you used to have a web page that offered some goodies. Good Luck with your return to Prontodom!

Thanks for the info Anthony.

And thanks for remembering me Dave. My page is still there, but it's three years out of date. I've only kept it online because I get a few hits a week on it.

My TSU7000 is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

It's a little daunting to think of all the work I'll have to do to get my new remote the way I want it. It's gets even more daunting when I remember that I have no artistic abilities and now I have all those colors to work with.

You don't really need any graphics skills as the Gallery has more than enough great looking buttons and backgrounds to use.
