I am currently working on my 2nd pcf and I am trying to do most of the design work myself using Photoshop. I am currently working on a "remote control" interface and I am looking for a way to get the remote symbols added to the buttons. Is there a particular font that has the symbols (play, stop, pause, etc.) I know the label function of the pronto software has them but I want to add them to the buttons in Photoshop to create shadows, bevels, etc. Any help is surely appreciated.

If you've installed ProntoEdit/ProntoEditNG/etc. then you have a copy of the Pronto font on your machine. The symbols are contained in that font -- you just need to figure out how to type them (finding a tool that can show you all the glyphs in a font would probably help.)

Since I do my Photoshop work on a Mac and move them to my PC, I had to copy the font over as well. From what I remember, Mac OS X can cope with the .ttf file directly (I don't remember having to convert the font from "Windows" TrueType packaging to a font suitcase like you used to have to do under Mac OS 9.)

If you have windows, run charmap.exe and select the Pronto Font. You can then select symbols and cut-n-paste into PSP or Photoshop.

If you have Win95 or Win98, I'm not sure if charmap is installed by default. You may have to enter setup to get it installed.

With 95/98 I'm certain that it is indeed optional (not part of the standard install), but can be found easily under Add/Remove's "accessories" category.

With XP I believe it is always installed by default to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

Here are some even better suggestions:

Instead of CHARMAP, get the program "Fontlister 3" It is freeware - you can download it off most of the shareware sites.

Instead of the Pronto font, get the fonts "TP Gui Transports" and "TP Gui Cons 01" You can download them from the website www.guifx.com free of charge. Not only do they contain the usual play, pause, stop, etc., but a host of other font characters that you may find useful when designing your pronto screens and buttons. These fonts were designed for Crestron, but will work anywhere.

Fonts are vector graphics that resize with hardly any loss of clarity.

In Photoshop, make sure you also have your font set to Pronto or you will not see the Pronto fonts. Character Map copies over the character's value and not the actual graphics.
