Hello All,

I know that this subject has been touched on in other threads, however after much reading I am stiil getting the same thing:
"Download Process has Failed"
I recently bought a new Toshiba P15 Laptop, with Windows XP, (my old laptop had 2000... no problems). I can preform the following just fine: Upload, Learn IR's, and Test IR's. I created a new PCF that I want to use (some of the graphics were designed on my old laptop, which I no longer have), and it will not download. App Version: 2.3.12, Database Version: V1.4.7, Boot Loader Version: V2.35b. I have tried changing batteries, reset button, rebooting, different cables, I have just run out of ideas!!! Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you up to date with Windows Update? There is a USB fix in there.

Good luck with all the down/up load problems. I tried three computers, covering two OS's (XP, W2K) trying to get my 3000 to communicate, and finally got it to work reliably on my home grown HTPC. Its the newest, XP, and has the most memory (1 GB), USB 2.0. Don't know what enabled it to work there or prevented it from working on the other two. My guess is Philips decided their NewGen remote HW deserves new PC HW. :)

When I first purchased my TSU3000, I experienced the same problem. I installed the software on my company laptop (Toshiba TE2000) and could never get it to complete a download. The TSU3000 sat in my closet for 8-9 months until I recently had my company laptop re-imaged. I now have XP Professional 5.1. I re-installed the pronto software and everything works fine. I don't know what changed or why it wasn't working before. But, everything works correctly now under this version of XP.

I had the same problem. The solution was that I had to flash the firmware again. The firmware updater was able to rescue the dead remote, load the initial config, and then I was able to update it again with my saved PCF.

I was able to change my PCF redownload it to the remote without problem.

The downside? I had to downgrade (!) my firmware from 3.0.42.3 that it came with to 3.0.42.1 that is the latest available online.

That said, I doubt the changes between 3.0.42.1 and 3.0.42.3 are significant, otherwise Philips would have released an updated firmware by now.

In any case, in case anyone has this problem (caused by a corrupt PCF maybe?) the firmware updater may fix the problem.

I had awful trouble. One computer with XP Pro ran OK the other didn’t. I emailed Philips and a reply came back saying I needed to log in as “administrator” but gave no further assistance. I thought my account was the administrator account as I am the main user, but apparently not. I now right click the Pronto Icon before starting the editor and click “Run as”, a box opens up and I choose the bottom option - “The following user” – type in “administrator” and the password you set when you set up the administrator account, and hey presto! All seems to work brilliantly. (It may also be worth trying to re-install the editor while logged on as administrator first) Also remember, some of the larger PCF files take a while to download and it seems nothing is working then suddenly the remote bursts into life.Try using a very small 1 page PCF first. Good Luck!

Well, I just tried that on a one hour old Pro and it killed the unit dead. Even two days after Easter, nothing will resurrect it. I talked to tech at Phillips and they agreed. A replacement is on the way. I hope this is not the way of the 7000, my 3000 has been bulletproof...

The only time I've seen the failure message (not the remote not connected message) is when the computer was doing a disk check and I tried a download at the same time. I'm running XP Pro on a 2.8 GHz P4 Gateway. I think the download will fail if the computer CPU or disk activity is too high.

The occasional times it thinks the remote isn't connected are usually solved by pressing the remote reset button or just touching the screen to wake it up. I think they need to add more retries for the download and upload functions. It seems to give up too fast. And boy do those downloads drain the batteries.

Well, I've seen LOADING a file fail when PENG wasn't kept as the active program (ie. checking email while the file slowly loaded)...

What Daniel states is 100% absolutely and positively correct and most likely applies to the TSU3000 only.

If there are 7000 users who are still having this problem, please speak up now.

While Beta-Testing the 7000 software, I reported this exact issue to the ProntoTeam. This problem was fixed for PPENG but may still exist on PENG.

To reproduce the problem, I would start a 7000 download and then immediately switch to Word to edit a document (using Win98SE but most likely applies to other OSes). Unless I waited until the Progress Bar appeared signalling connection to the remote and start of the download, the download would fail 100% of the time with Cannot Connect to Remote errors.
