Hey i'm about to buy the adobe photoshop software (the 'CS' one), and wanted to make sure it was what i need for creating/editing pronto bitmaps. After looking through the forum i found most people use adobe photoshop, but i am not familiar with their line. I have a 2000 and a 7000 and plan on doing a lot of work on the 7000. Is this the right version of photoshop, or is there another software i should consider.

Are you familiar with that caliber of graphic software? If not you may be very disappointed because it is a program that takes a long time to learn the "ins and outs". If you are new at graphic design, I would reccomend Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 or 8.

Man that stuff is a lot less expensive, i am not that experienced in the whole photoeditor stuff, but i have been programming prontos for years, and have used the basic editors to modify bitmaps, etc. I now need something to help me simulate motion (with the jumps in the 7000 kinda like chloe on the entries) and create a whole lot of bitmaps (kinda like the roadmap entry). I have the time to learn and a couple buddies in graphic design to help. With the price difference jasc seems like the way to go. Now that you know my experience would you agree?

Also McNasty are you the same McNasty on Negreanu's site?

If all you are going to work with is Pronto files, get Jasc or similar. If you are planning on working with other stuff (digital pictures, websites, etc.) get Photoshop (you might be able to find a deal on an earlier version, CS is the top of the line right now - it is awesome, but costly).

I've been using Photoshop for years. If you can afford the price you won't be dissappointed. I bought a 3d house modeling program for a $100, it sucks. So many peices of software let you down, Photoshop won't.

As far as learning, there are tons of free tutorials online to help you get started.

Why not buy Photoshop elements? It has almost all features you'll need to create great graphics and costs only a fraction of the full version.
Maybe worth a try, because McNasty is right: Photoshop is a great software, but the learning curve is quite steep.

Yes, in my opinion if you are not experienced there isn't much you can do with photoshop that you can't with Paint Shop Pro. I have both and use Paint Shop Pro a lot still.
Pacman, have you tried Paint Shop Pro 8 yet? Huge improvement on photo editing. It still isn't photoshop, but damn, for the price it is pretty awesome.

I don't think so. What site is that? I'll have to open up a can of whoopass if someone's using my name ;0)

McNasty, I saw on another thread that you have Niles MRZ-6 codes in your Pronto. Can you please email me a CCF file with those codes in it? I am having trouble getting the codes and I don't have the niles remote. Thanks!

PhotoShop is the standard and if you are not using it now, you will sooner or later. It is going to take a while to learn but you will be amazed what it can do.

I say buy it.

There is a version of the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program?) available for Windows and of course Linux.

Best of all - it doesn't cost a penny.

With PSP8, you can download a 60 day trial version from the JASC website. Then they e-mail you a discount off the purchase price. I think you can get it cheaper if you shop around.

Still a bit of a learning curve with PSP8 though...
