When I first got my 7000 I had all sorts of problems with PPENG and downloading to the remote. I was working off my 3000 configuration file and would frequently get the message, "unable to download file", including much crashing of PPENG in general and corrupt file saves. I was always able to eventually get my .pcf file to download to the remote however.

I wish I knew why things are smooth sailing now, but I don't. I had a rough first week. Now I can't save a corrupt file if my life depended on it. I can push my .pcf file to the limit where the remote shows 0% memory left. No download problems anymore. Interestingly enough the size of my .pcf file is rather large. Please don't throw anything at me when you click on the link below. :-) It is much larger than any of the file sizes mentioned here so far, and it continues to download to my 7000 without fail with 17% memory left in the remote.

My bad ... I only have 7% memory left in the remote. Not 17% as I stated above. :-P

My current pcf file:

Email me your file, I'll see how big it "really" is...

I would be happy to email it to you Daniel. I can upload it to the web and email you a link. Look for my email later tonight. Heading home from work now. Will take a while to upload. :-P It would be interesting to see how "big" my configuration file "really" is. :-)

OK, your file translates from a 10.9mb PCF to a 10.5 megabyte file on the remote (-3%). The biggest file I've seen so far is a 9.7mb PCF that translates to 15.5mb (+60%).

Like I said, hard to judge remote size based on PCF size...

Daniel,
That's all well and good but the point is how are either of the files above being translated into the 7000 when some of us are unable to translate 3 and 4 mb PCFs -- you are not suggesting, are you, that my 4.7mb PCF is translating to more than 15.5mb (+more than 300%)?

By the way, Lowpro sent me a copy of his PCF and it downloads into my 7000 so the problem is not with my unit.

Daniel, how are you working out what the size is on the remote?

No, that would really be unlikely. I'm wondering if there may be something "odd" in your file that is causing the download and/or compiling process to fail, or if it's something computer specific that's doing it.

Have you checked whether others can download your file? (Sorry, don't recall if you've mentioned.) If you want, email me your file and I'll see if I can get anything to work...

Trade secret for the moment... I'm still not totally sure it's right, so I want to do a bit more testing.

I got confused. Disregard my reply here. Seems to be no way to delete it, so I edited out my remarks.

Thanks,

Daniel,

Tried to send you my PCF twice today but sending failed both times because the file exceeded the server's capacity. Well! I guess the 7000 is not the only device that doesn't like my file!

Really? I got it about 40 minutes ago...

Your file, which is 4.26mb, translates to a 10.7mb file (+150%) on the remote. Note that this is technically bigger than Lowpro's final 10.5mb file.

Good news/bad news. The good news is that the file you sent downloaded just fine to my TSU7000. The bad news is that I don't know why it isn't working for you.

I'd almost wonder if it was a complexity rather than size problem, but Loepro's PCF has a larger XML file and many more bitmaps, and takes infinitely longer to load on my PC... so it's hard to say.

Daniel,

I'm sorry, I sent you the wrong file. This one works for me too. The one I intended to send is the same size PCF but it has one item put back in that was taken out in the file I sent you.

Since the one that works for both of us is showing 0% memory left in the settings menu and you clock it as 10.7mb in the 7000, I think we have our answer.

Thanks for your help. I suppose I'll just have to wait for the extra 16mb to be released -- hope its soon!
