The pcf file size is 6.74mb and uncompressed is 10.9mb. A slightly larger file does not want to download. I can reduce the file size more by optimizing a lot of my graphics. I believe they were all saved as PNG32. I think that is the default of Fireworks (at least on my system). I changed one graphic from PNG32 to PNG8 and it reduced it from about 54kb to 15kb inside the bitmaps folder. I'm just not looking forward to importing all of those graphics again. Oh well, important lesson learned.

I've found that the size in the bitmaps folder is not necessarily the final size that it uses. If you download then upload your PCF the file sizes can be smaller again. My guess is that this is the size actually taken up by all images.

As far as the non-image data goes, the XML is extremely verbose and does not represent the actual size taken up in the Pronto. It would probably be at least 10 times smaller.

Thanks for the info Peter. My remote currently shows only 3% available space. I still have to add all of my cd cover art so I'm gonna have to make things smaller. Worst case I can ditch the channel logos, I don't use them anyway. I only made them all for my clients.

I have found a way to decrease your filesize.
it was already pointed out in this threat, but it worked great for me.
I stripped my file down from 8MB to 4MB
Otherwise it would not download.
I downloaded it and then i uploaded it back again.
In my case the file drasticly dropped to 1.8MB
I carefully put back the rest of my original file step by step and repeated the up and download procedure.
This way i could keep my filesize in balance while adding new stuff.
the exact same file is now 2.907kb.
Well it was, because i now had more room to play.

The only bad thing is that the first two upload always fail on my computer.
So i have to do it 3 times everytime.
First time prontoedit crashes
second time i get..nothing
third time always workes.

Hope all this was usefull

That's either the result of removing improperly duplicatated images, or images being reduced to more appropriate quality levels (ie. no 24-bit BMPs).

The same thing always happens to me on upload. It used to be different when the file size was smaller.

First itme PPENG crashes
Second time nothing
Third time always works.

Frustrations continue. I tried Claudio's idea and was pleased to see a reduction in file size by 1.7 mg!

Unfortunately the reduction did not help. Instead of the inability to down passed 6mg in size it now ceases to download at about 4.3mg in size. Obviously the file reduction is not accepted by the 7000!

Try merging your file with a clean system page. Its a long shot but I think this is one fo the things that helped my file eventually download.

When i finaly managed to downsize to 4 mb (because that was my downloading max) i carefully started adding new stuff.
When i saw that the size became criticaly i downloaded it and uploaded it again.
It continued to optimize my file,so i could ad new stuff.
My trick was to keep it under 4MB.
Now i've added more then i originaly could (simulator crash)
The latest file even came out smaller after adding a lot of 240X320 pictures, and believe me i have an extensive file with more then 12 Devices a lot of macro's the works!
My current file size is now 3,02MB
Before this was around 10MB
Don't ask me how it's possible
All i know is the more passes the smaller it got.
And it still looks great on the pronto screen
And i stiil have 35% free space on the remote.
Still I believe this normaly should have been achieved just by using PPENG.

Greetings Claudio

Claudio,

Tried again. The last PCF I was able to download was 4.26MB so I uploaded it to the Pronto and saved the result under a new file name. It was 3.32MB. I then added back in just one DVD panel I had previously removed, saved the file (now 3.41MB) and tried to download and the download failed! Your trick will no work for me. What version of the firmware are you using? Mine is: 3.0.42.3.

RU 980
App.3.0.47
boot V.3.81

It's the euro version of TSU 7000
But although the nummers are different, i believe the firmware is basicly the same.

At the end, even if we have the 32MB upgrade.
What will we really be able to use.

We now have 16
But where having trouble getting 4 into it

Claudio,

Assuming that we can use only 4mg we can further assume the other 12mg is used by the hardware. The latter should require little or none of the additional 16mg so it should be available to add to the 4mg for a total of 20mg for PCF use. At least we can hope! That's certainly the least I expected when I bought the 7000.

Once again, you CANNOT compare PCF file size to the size of the file the remote receives.

For example, in my testing on what I believe to be file conversion sizes:

1.7mb "fancy" TSU7000 default = 3.9mb (+129%)
9.7mb contest entry #1 = 15.5mb (+60%)
10.2mb contest entry #21 = 8.9mb (-13%)
1.0mb contest entry #22 = 2.7mb (+170%)
0.35mb contest entry #26 = 1.7mb (+386%)
4.1mb contest entry #28 = 8.7mb (+112%)
3.1mb contest entry #29 = 4.2mb (+35%)

I agree with ajlaban and Daniel

1) it will add a lot because most of it is/should be empty

2) you cannot compare a file (PCF) to what the remote can handle since the PENG uses PCFs and the remote uses what is built using the PCF so a PCF might be more efficient from the real remote in some ways and not in others
