[Link: pronto.philips.com]

What's New?

Pronto Update
New in version 2.3.12
Problems solved:
Improved battery lifetime
New functionality:
Autodetection of alcaline batteries or optional charging pack

That's all?

I thought the 3000 could already detect the optional charging pack based on the connector.

I'd like to know how much the battery life improves...

Uploaded the new Firmware with no problems.

So far so good. I will observe the new claim to longer battery life.

I wish however that they would fix some other things, but I guess battery life is where the most complains are/where.

I like to be a testpilot :)

I think that you are starting to see some problems identified and corrected on the 7000 filtering back to the 3000.

As long as they keep fixing stuff I'll be happy to upgrade my firmware every week if I have to. Although that will suck for all of my clients.

I would like to see some more worthwhile fixes. Mostly, button lag and delay.

use a blunt pointed object instead of your finger on the calibration

I just updated to 2.3.12 and went through the same thing with calibration. I actually did better with my finger than the blunt object.

I updated my RU950 to 2.3.12 yesterday. No problems with calibration at all.

Philips could save a lot more on Battery if they would NOT turn on the backlight (make it an option at least) everytime a hard key is pressed. The back light isn't needed to adjust the volume or change channels... and those buttons are used a lot on my unit.

In the setup, move the "light level" all the way to the left. Now the backlight won't turn on when you press any key (soft or hard). If you want to use the backlight just turn it on with the backlight button on the left side of the remote.

The frustrating thing for a lot of NG users (myself included) is that the NG has all the credentials to be a great remote if Philips would just LISTEN to their 3000 customers, perhaps in the same way they listened to Lyndel, Andrea, Peter and Archer for the 7000?. This firmware update is all good and well but it doesn't address the simple problems people have been crying out for since Day One - for example, the backlight turn-on issue highlighted by fleetwood - this IS almost certainly a relatively simple fix.
Oh and whilst I'm on a rant, can we curtail the endless "the TSU7000 fixes that" and "the TSU7000 is better at x, y and z over the 3000" comments. They're tiresome and do nothing more than irk the already annoyed 3000 owners - we shouldn't have to upgrade to a $999 remote to get some of these issues resolved.

Incidentally, the backlight behavior was changed to this by design. On the original Pronto, the screen only turned on when the bottom two hard buttons were hit. Later models made it happen when the volume and channel buttons were hit as well.

Plus, the hard buttons were on a completely separate backlighting system.

I installed the firmware (version 2.3.12) Wendesday 10th and haven't seen any improved battery life at all using the charging pack and ds3000 docking station.

Same here, using the ds3000, no improved battery life. Maybe this update was for alcalines?
