THANKS.

Both use software that is much easier to use than the RC5000Setup. However, both use two color graphics rather than the Pronto/RC5000Setup's four colors. This makes graphics less seductive. On the bright side, the screens of both the RTI and the Lexicon are far brighter and have much better readibility and contrast.

The much more expensive Lexicon incorporates a very large screen, enabling you to provide yourself with large buttons and/or more buttons per screen. It is a two handed product as a result.

The RTI is probably a better purchase if you like to surf with one hand. It is a wand style and has very good balance and feel.

If the problem you are having with the RC5000i is no discrete codes for your components and inconsistant macros as a result, both the Lexicon and the RTI offer base stations and accessories that enable you to sense whether a component is on or off before issuing a toggle type command. The RTI can sense the on/off status of six components, the Lexicon only two.

If you are having some other problem with the RC5000i, we would be interested in helping you. What's driving you crazy?

Plus this post would fit better in the RTI forum (they make both of them). The Lexicon is much more expensive then the T2 which is much more expensive then the Pronto.

Both are also more limited in Icons (limited sizes, limited placement). You can try downloading their software and give them a try.

Personal opinion: I prefer the Pronto especially when you go into price performance.

If you're considering spending the money for a Lexicon 700T, you'd be far better off in the long run going for a Crestron (or PHAST) system instead. The price for a starter system from Crestron is very comparable to the 700T, but is FAR more expandable. You also have the option of color (256 colors) screens.

Another option to consider, depending on what your concerns are with the Pronto, is to purchase a home automation controller, such as HomeVision. If the problems you're having relate to lack of discrete codes for devices, you can resolve them with a Pronto, HomeVision (look at [Link: csi3.com]), and some Smartlinc probes to detect the state of your components. Crestron also sells some add on units to detect power states, but the HomeVision costs less than the number of Crestron units you would need for comparable inputs and gives you X-10 control (among other things) as a nice bonus. HomeVision is a very flexible product with some nifty features. For example, it has a built in sunset calculator so you can configure X-10 lights to come on at sunset (or some number of minutes before sunset).

In my case, I started with a Crestron system (before the Pronto was available), a HomeVision unit (mostly for the X-10 control), and a Pronto (it allowed me to get discrete power codes into the Crestron system).

As others suggested, post your reasons for being unhappy with the Pronto and there might be some no cost solutions. The Crestron system is great, but I might not have spent the money if the Pronto (and ProntoEdit) had been available at the time.
