Anyone - I'm all pretty new to this and just to add difficulty I'm in the UK. Does anyone know any good web-sites, resellers, book, etc (apart from this top site) where I can get some simple info on x10 and the remotes (probably the pronto).

There is a lot of info here, there is also Daniel's review section for remotes. Since you are in the UK I would recommend www.letsautomate.com. I have not heard a bad thing about them, and my friends where surprised by the good service.
