I downloaded ver 1.05 of ProntoEdit and have not been able to get the emulator or edit executable file to work. The emulator gives a message "can't open configuration file". The prontoedit and prontoupdate file gives me a "Dr. Watson NT application error". I am using Windows NT4 and Internet Explorer 4.0. I have done a search on emulator problems and deleted the pronto.css file, reinstall the software and tried seeing if the Marantz download would work will no success. I did see a message that turning of the video accelerator works but I could not find out how to do this. I do not have a pronto but after reading for weeks how powerful this remote is I wanted to play with the emulator a little bit before I decide to buy one. If anyone out there have an idea of what my problem might be please comment.
Thanks, Busterbones

You can only run the emulator and update from within ProntoEdit. So you have to get ProntoEdit working first.
When you try to run ProntoEdit, does it crash immediately or does the program start up then crash later?

The only file you can run manually is prontoedit.exe -- what error does it give?

The program crashes immediately. I forgot exactly what the error was but it had something to do with permission denied. I will give exact error problem on Monday. I was able to get v1.04 running on my laptop which runs win98 but I still would like to get the new release working.

as always... ssearch the site first... it FULL of good info:
----------------- B11-01 Why does the Emulator crash under Windows NT?
ProntoEmulator, when run for the first time, generates a calibration file in the name of pronto.css in the root directory of the drive you installed ProntoEdit to (typically c:\). ProntoEdit v1.04, when running under Windows NT, does not appear to generate this file when it is nonexistent and thus the emulator will crash when it tries to access it. -----------------
As a side note, if you have a dual boot system, you can just copy this file from where ever it exists to your NT system partition [%systemroot%].
In your case copy it from your funcioning "laptop" version over to your NT system partition.

Rudy, In my first message I mentioned that I was able to get the pronto.css file when I ran Prontoemulator for Prontoedit ver 1.05. I don't think this is my problem unless the file is suppose to be there before I run the emulator. I think I have to get ProntoEdit up and running first before the emulator works properly.
Daniel The error message is the following: An application error has occured and an application error log is being generated. ProntoEdit.exe Exception: access violation (0xc.....), Adress:0x..... Any clue as to what may be causing this. Also I have seen a few messages today about not downloading the file from Phillips website. I will try a nother site to see if this works.

Well, I tried rebooting my system with no luck. Neither Pronto 1.05 or Marantz 2.1 worked with NT. The error messages are the same. As stated before I was able to get ProntoEdit 1.04 working but when I tried loading a ccf file it failed. From what I read in the FAQ section I need the newer version of Pronto or Marantz to use the archived ccf files. Again, any help would be appreciated.

Could be a problem with your graphics card. Try reducing hardware acceleration.
The place you find it can vary from card to card. Try right clicking on desktop, select properties to get to video settings window. Click on settings, then advanced, then probably troubleshooting. You should see a slider where you can reduce hardware acceleration.

as an afterthought... i wonder if having your NT partition formatted NTFS is gonna make a difference ?? What about checking the permissions on the pronto files [.exe and support files including pronto.css] ??
I know that it worked on my system running NT in FAT. I also had the same problem as you, Busterbones, but it was resolved with the pronto.css file.

Well after deleting all Pronto and Marantz files, rebooting my computer a second time and downloading RC5000 software everything is working. How I don't know since I have not changed any setting on my computer. I also was able to get ProntoEdit to work. I guess you have to have patiences when dealing with computers and software. I thank everyone who gave me advice on how to get around the error. Your suggestion may help another reader.
