Does anyone know of a Canadian Pronto retailer? How does the Pronto differ from the Marantz RC5000?

Sorry - the Pronto isn't sold in Canada. Philips won't authorize any dealers to carry them. There is hope, since the Marantz RC5000 should be available worldwide soon (I know of one dealer who already has a display model). Physically, they are the same except that the RC5000 is gold colored and includes the desktop charger, though at a price higher than the Pronto + charger is. :-)

Daniel is right, the pronto is not available in Canada. However, there are several places in the US that will do mail order to Canada. There have been several postings on US dealers here and www.prontoedit.com. I bought mine from Q-Audio, they couried it UPS and I had mine within a few days. Check their website at www.qaudio.com or phone 617-547-2727. Word of warning, UPS does the customs clearance and charges $41.50 in brokerage charges. If I had known that I probably would have looked for a lower cost way. There is no duty on the Pronto, however one must pay GST and PST (about $80).

Using UPS Ground to Canada (they call it "Canada Standard") is a real no-no. They charge 10% BROKERAGE FEES on the declared value, converted to CDN. You're best to use either:

1) Standard Post or
2) Any "Air" service, including UPS Expedited (3-day) & Express (2-day), FedEx or DHL. They include brokerage fees in the standard price, though you'll still have to pay PST & GST plus a small "collection fee".
