I currently have a Sony RPTV 53HS10. I would like to know if anyone has a single key (discrete code?) to change the aspect ratio back & forth from 16:9 and 4:3 will the TV is in Video 5 (digital) mode.

This would be very handy because widescreen movies look good in 16:9 but when I want to see supplemental info, it is in 4:3, and I have to go in the TV menu to change it. A simple toggle would be great.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks,
Chris

Why not copy that button onto the screen where you need it? I used that to put a button on my DVD and Sat control screens to switch b/t S-video and RCA inputs on my tv. Hope this helps.

Hi Spenser, Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that there was just a single button I could program to switch back and forth. Right now I have to go into the TV menu, scroll down to about 2 sub menus and then exit. It is OK for me to do but when my family wants to watch a DVD and I'm not around, they won't know what to do. If I could say to push this button, it would be much easier overall.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, as Spencer says, why not put a button on your main DVD panel that has the required IR code.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the reply. I can put that button on my DVD screen but the problem is that I don't have the required code to do it as a single push of a button. Therein lies my problem. You know how there are discrete codes to access, say, the Picture control. One push of the picture control button and you adjust the picture. I'd like to do the same with the switching between 4:3 and 16:9 instead of navigating thru the TV menu system.

Is there a discrete code to be able to change the aspect ratio with 1 button push?

I don't know about discrete codes, (or toggle which seem to be what you want), but I have a NEC projector that does not have discrete input codes, and the best way of changing them is through the menu. What I did is reproduce the menu commands in a macro. Something like menu - right -down - down - enter for one of the inputs. It does end up making large macros but it does the job for me. If there is a way to know where on the menu you start (some menus start at your last choice) then you can try the same thing. It also looks freaky since the menu pops up on the screen, moves down the list and seems to be deciding for itself.

I don't believe there is such a discrete code for that TV. The menu system should work, unless it doesn't start off at a known point (my Sony TV does).
