I am a new ProntoEdit user and just updated to v1.05. I have some config's in PE that I downloaded from this site, but when I attempt to download one to my Pronto, I get the following messages: "Failed to get valid info. from Pronto, do you want to overwrite any configuration currently in Pronto?" Let's say that I say yes, I get the following message: "Error downloading configuration into Pronto."

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you haven't updated the firmware. From Tools menu, select Update.

I wouldn't suggest that you do this as it will render your remote useless - that was my experience anyway.

Updating worked fine for me. Not heard of anyone having problems until now.

I was getting that same error for awhile. I could upload but not download. All I did was put my remote on the home panel and made sure it was on while downloading. Worked fine then.

If you check out my previous thread titled "Help - from bad to worse" you will see my problem. It was the update that really stuffed things up. I can't do anything now! I have read all the threads on the subject and tried everything but nothing works. I can't leave it at the home panel as I can't see anything. Anything else anybody can suggest?

Richard, have you tried leaving the batteries out overnight before doing the update. Also, are your batteries charged?

The "failed to get valid info" message is almost always solved by activating the screen and putting the remote on the home panel.

Peter, yes I tried that. Having tried all suggestions, I got desperate and rang Philips in Auckland, New Zealand. I took my dead Pronto to a very helpful and friendly guy there yesterday at lunchtime where he tried to do a major reset for me while I waited. He finally agreed that it was in fact dead and asked me to leave it with him. He reckons he'll be able to send it back to me today in working order so I'll let you know. I must admit that I am now very nervous about trying to connect it to my laptop again - certainly won't be doing any tools/updates!

I had a chat to him about all the other problems that can be read about on this forum and about the bad name that Philips seems to have in the States and the UK when it comes to Pronto support. He took note but obviously not a lot he can do about it. He reckons the Pronto is a great product and if he gets mine going again I'll agree with anything he says.

Richard-
I wouldn't worry at all about connecting, updating firmware, etc. You had a pretty unusual experience. To really get the best use of your Pronto you'll need to get back on the laptop that throwed you, or whatever the saying is. I read your bad-to-worse post and it sounds like you're fully capable of figuring it out assuming you start with a working unit. Using a Pronto without ProntoEdit is pointless. Relax and enjoy it, it's a very good unit in general.

I now know how it feels to see this thing work properly - unreal! I got the machine back from the dude at Philips today - 24 hour turn around - not bad. Anyway, what he did was replace the PCB which he reckoned was stuffed (I suspect he replaced the whole machine). I can now upload/download all I want to so I'm a happy man. All I need to do now is learn how to create the look that I want.

Barry, you are so right that without prontoedit this thing is a waste of money. Thanks all for your help - I think we need to treat these things carefully.

By the way, my battery also shows fully charged as well.

You want service? Come to New Zealand!

Thanks again
Richard

Wilson your remote should already be at v2.0, there is no need to update.
