After much trial and error, and several botched attempts, I managed to find out how to move bitmaps from files to the panel. Now, please enlighten me on how to program the buttons to "Jump" to the appropriate "Channel" (either dish/local). I know how to use the "jump" function fairly well now. But the whole IR codes stuff has me stumped. (I do know how to teach the remote.) Is it as simple as going to the screen, editing the button, and teaching it by pushing the corresponding channel number, or is it alot more than that? Help! Easy-to-follow instructions, please...if it's not apparent, I'm a neophyte.

First of all, you should read the FAQ. It has lots of useful information.

You need to set up a button for each channel number on your remote and then learn the IR for each channel number into each button.

Then to set up a multiple digit selection, create a new button, and add an action for each digit which is aliased to the appropriate button previously set up. You should also put a small delay between each digit.

Kent,

I have DirecTV. I wanted to create buttons for each channel I like and put them on my "surf" screen. Since USA is channel 242 on my system I simply created a button, then learned signal "2" from my DirecTV remote. I put a short delay (.1 sec) and then I learned signal "4" and then another delay followed by signal "2".

The easiest way I've found to do it is by using ProntoEdit with my Pronto connected and "learning" the signal from the action tab (once you double-click the button you are working with). Try it.

Another bonus is that in the file section I found a SUPER selection of icons for all the stations. The guys and gals that contribute to this site really do make your life easy!

Hope this helps.

Bobusan, your method, while it works, wastes memory. You should have a single panel with the learned codes for each channel button on your original remote.

Then all of your other panels, which have buttons for each station, have aliases to the buttons on the first panel.

That way, you also only have to learn each button once.

Peter, I have downloaded somebody else's button panels and thought about adapting it for my use. They originally had it in their macro section. Does it make any difference where you put it? Also, I tried to program it like this... (a)Sat_1-1 then .1 delay then proceeded with Sat_1-2, delay etc...till the 3 digits were input then ended with a Sat. enter action.
For some reason, I'm sure I got something out of order or something. I tried to do it like the previous guy's setup, but to no avail...could you give me a basic step by step instruction. This is the last thing I have left in programming. Thanks.

Kent:
1) No, it does not matter on the side
2-a) The sequence of actions seems right, what is the outcome when you press the button?
2-b) Try longer delays, the delay depends on the equipment (how soon is it ready for the next command). Some equipment don't need a delay, and some need a longer one.

Hi Peter,

Good idea. I'll go back and tweak mine. I still have over 35% memory left, but your method is a lot easier to manage.

Thanks!

Update...everything works now with the exception of the "enter" message...I am going to try longer delays. At least I got the stations to come up on the guide. Now, I just have to get it where I can push the logo button and it go directly to the program. Thanks everybody.
