Hi all,
I have an RC5000 that I'm trying to setup. I believe someone previously messed with it.
The only mode available to me is user mode.
at the bottom of my home screen there is only an A/B icon . There is no mode button icon.

I read something about being able to hide the mode menu so I went to the setup screen and it says go to the second screen and uncheck the box for the mode menu. There is no mode menu on any screen in setup.
sooo....
So, I figure this is write protected. Not sure. In either case it has none of my devices programmed into it so I've nothing to loose by going to original configuration.

I go to setup mode and the revert button is greyed out.
Anyone have any suggestion on how I can get this thing working?
Any help would be appreciated.

Also, connecting up the rc5000 to my computer with a known working com port, it cant connect to the device. It states com1 opened successfully but no response from device.

on the back of the device there should be a reset button... you'll need a paperclip or something but pressing that should return it to factory default settings. Good luck!

No, that'll just reboot the remote -- not change any settings.

Alan: you've already determined the write protected status. If the Mode Menu option is not available under the setup menu, it's been marked as write-protected on the CCF level (and I still don't know why people do that when hiding the mode menu button is good enough). You have to connect this remote to a PC and either receive/fix/send the CCF, or just create a brand new file and send it to the remote.

Thanks for the prompt responses! very much appreciated.
Daniel: I cant seem to get to the rc5000 to upload anything to it.

I know my com1 works fine because I can use it to connect to other devices- e.g. router, wireless Access Point,etc...)
It opens the com port successfully but cannot access the device.. seems like a catch 22...
Any gotchas in getting this to connect to my PC?

You're trying to get a file from the remote to the PC, right? If so, try ensuring the LCD screen is *active* when you try to connect, and that it's on the HOME page.

Hello Alan,

Had the same problem with my RC5000 (because of a silly bug).
Marantz (Netherlands) told me to first put the RC5000 on the charger-unit. And upload the firmware WITH replacement of the current configuration.
Worked fine for me.

Theo.

no matter what I try it appears that the rc5000 is not communicating with the desktop software....

It claims to have opened com1 successfully but then there is no response from the rc5000. I tried putting it on the charger and updating the it. It asks me to rest the unit, I do, and then the app sits there indefinitely with no further progress....

Do you have the number for support at Marantz?
I could not find it in the manual...

thanks for your replies

alan
