What is the screen like on the colour Pronto? What's the brightness and contrast like? Is the resolution the same?

(I wish Philips could bring out a Pronto using the screen on the little Sony VAIO that I use here - 1024x 480 pixels and absolutely gorgeous!)

Resolution will be the same as the existing Pronto, 240x320, with 256 colors.

I would recommend philips use Li-ion baterry with the color pronto to make it lighter and maybe thinner...

Daniel, how about the background on the screen? Is it white, other, or will it be editable through software? Will this color pronto come with the charger or is there the option of buying it separately? Also, will it be able to do X-10 commands? Thank you for aiding in my decision.

AGM, you've gone from supposedly talking to a Phillips Rep who stated that there'd be no Color Pronto until 2002 to now asking Daniel what the specifics of the color Pronto will be (including asking if it will do X-10 commands which obviously is not a function of a IR or RF remote other than being able to learn the appropriate IR/RF signals to send to an X-10 IR or RF receiver - which the Pronto already does for IR).

AGM I think I heard that the charger will be part of the package

Thank you Anthony. And for DUDE, what I was referring to was exactly what you said about the regular pronto being able to learn the appropriate IR/RF signals to send to an X-10 IR or RF receiver. My question was if the color one would do the same? There should be no reason why not to. And what is wrong with asking Daniel the questions? Do you represent him or something? I refer to him because he seems to have all of the answers and other sources do not. I am more inclined to wait to buy the color pronto now that I am better informed. Another question to anyone who can help me is: Nothing from the 1meg pronto ccf's will be usefull for the color one right?

AGM,

You will be able to change the color of the background the same way as you can do so now - use a frame the same size as the whole screen and make its color whatever you like.

Your existing CCFs will work with the new Pronto - they just won't be in color.

The real question is will existing Prontos be able to work with a color CCF. The answer should be yes - the colors will be mapped back down to mono.

Of course it can do X10 - that is something you can do now.

Apparantly the color version will let you choose background and button color right on the remote.

Will the background colors on the prontopro be as pretty as the glow of the backlight on the pronto? I assume they will not be. Nor will there be a backlight because since it is color it is automatically visible in the dark when it is being used. And the contrast will still be adjustable correct?

AGM, I can't speak for the colour Pronto but my colour HP Jornada palmtop has a backlight. The problem isn't so much making it visible in the dark, but rather making it visible in bright light. Unlike single-colour LCDs, colour LCDs tend to wash out in bright light.

Color displays usually have white backlights. The ProntoPro will have a color screen like any palmtop or laptop.

If the already know that the 2meg will be released, why isn't there any advertising for it so people could get hyped about it before it comes out? And for the color too? Denon had their ad a few months before the release. Why can't Philips? Does anyone know if the EURO models of any of these will differ from the US models and will those be available to US customers?

AGM,how much was the original Pronto advertised when it came out?

AGM, if they advertise that they're going to have a better product in a few months time, sales of the current model will dry up.

Denon doesn't have this problem as their product is brand-new.
