Excellent! This is a good rule to follow when installing any new software. AV software checks all files as they are being written and can cause them to be transferred improperly or not at all.

Resolution:
Well, the replacement cable arrived via FedEx today. I immediately noticed that it looked slightly different than the cable that came with my Pronto. The original cable in the box had only two leads on the 1/8" jack. This one has three leads.
I plugged the new cable in, launched Pronto Edit and tada! Everything worked!
So, I can only guess that somehow the wrong cable got packed in with my Pronto...

Almost sounds like you got a cable wired for the Take Control. Perhaps your dealer was slipping a "non-standard" cable in the box?

I'm suspecting that someone at the dealership opened it up to "play" with it and put the wrong cable back in. I bought this from a ultra high-end store so I doubt they tried to pull a fast one on me. Probably an honest mistake...
