Just to confirm-- The Pronto will learn _any_ command from my IR remotes?

What equipment do you have? Some remotes(Pioneer RPTV(Elite, I think) transmits at a higher frequency than the Pronto can learn. However, if someone can post the codes for you you can paste them into your configuration using ProntoEdit and the Pronto can transmit them. Again....the Pronto can transmit codes at a higher frequemcy than it can learn. This may just be a software thing that can be addressed in a future firmware upgrade. But I'll tell you.....it's the most amazing little thing I've seen for the money. Trust me, 99% of remotes give the Pronto no trouble. The only other brands I can think of that give the Pronto trouble are the Bang & Olufson equipment and the Sony VisionTouch remotes(because that remote actually uses 2 way communication with the Receiver). Hope this was helpful!

Thanks for the info- My stuff is pretty standard, so sounds good. Unfortunately everything is behind a cabinet so I will have to give up the RF/IR converter of my OneForAll remote.

If you have an IR to RF converter on your remote and a RF to IR converter in the cabinet like Terks leapfrog unit, it can also be removed from your old remote and placed on the pronto.

Thanks-my current remote has built-in RF & comes with a RF-IR converter.
Do you know who makes an IR-RF converter that attaches to the remote? Does the Leapfrog do this?

So are ya'll saying that there might be a possible solution to the visiontouch problem?
What I really don't understand, is why would sony introduce 2-way ir onto a remote control that dosen't even have a graphical interface. I can understand having 2-way on the new 30, 50 and 9000 series because of their lcd remotes, but the visiontouch series have is a little eraser-head button that so many other remotes seem to have these days...

I have heard a negative complaint about the Terk Leapfrog when used in combination with pronto, so buyer beware. I am told that Pronto will not currently learn Band & Olufsen codes, and I've heard it's not compatible with Sony Vision Touch. There is a stand-alone IR-RF RF-IR converter I'm going to try from Recoton, because for my satellite dish has poor IR reception. IR100

Home Automation Systems ( www.smarthome.com) also has a remote 'extender' -- not just a signal repeater, but the type that you attach one piece to the actual remote. I haven't tried it with the Pronto though...

Yes jmr, Leapfrog by Terk does convert IR to RF then sends the RF signal to an RF to IR converter but I've never used it so I cant comment on its performance. If you wanna try it be sure the place of purchase has a good return policy.

Jmr you may wanna look at this device at smarthome. Its for operating equipment inside cabinets with an IR remote. [Link: smarthome.com]

The best way to program your pronto using the visiontouch remote is to use it in another room so that the "return" codes don't interfere with your programming. I have been able to do this without problems.

JMR
I tried to order a 74.95 remote repeater from Smarthome, but they were out of stock. In the interim, went into Douglas TV in Naperville (IL and they had more or less the same thing from RCA.
It has two little units about 3-4 inches high. One sees the IR signal, converts it to RF and sends to the second device. the second takes the RF an converts it into IR again. Cost 59.95 and works fine.
