I can't find a ccf for the Yamaha rx-v800 receiver. Any suggestions on how I might obtain it, or is there prior Yamaha reveiver codes that will also work?

I'd hold off using the older Yamaha models. I have to do a RXV-800 in the next couple days. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new "extended" IR commands are. Should include (3) predefined volume levels-VERY useful!?

Ahhhh...the plot thickens...
I've got an RXV-800 in front of me, but contrary to both my Yamaha rep and the CEDIA booth staff, the supplied remote itself does not have the new "extended" IR. I called Customer Support and they will try to post them on their site in maybe 3 weeks. I explained I have a system that needs programming NOW, and the rep pulled up his Excel "work sheet", and read a few of them to me. Looks like the new RXV-800/1000/3000 receivers do have some very useful custom codes, including discrete volume presets, display off, effect off, tuner presets, and more detailed direct/discrete surround settings.

Here's the "format" of what he read me:

Column A = (2) alpha/numeric, either 7A, 7C, or 7E
Column B = (1) alpha/numeric, either 1-0 or A-F
Column C = (1) alpha/numeric, either 1-0 or A-F
Column D = Function description

For example:
POWER ON is 7A - 1- D
EFFECT OFF = 7E - E - 0
ON-SCREEN OFF = 7E - B -0

I havn't had to download & digest the IR generators programs from the utilities before, so I'm asking for help/advice. Does this look a valid format, and if so, what utility/procedure should I use?

Thanks for the update Barry.

It sound like I will have to wait for someone with talent in creating ccf's to create one for the rx-v800 receiver. Please keep me posted if you find out more information.

This might be a silly question, but will these extended remote codes work for older models as well? Specifically an RX-v795?

Here's hoping...

Barry,
If you could post the pronto hex for one of the commands that is in the remote, along with the three column description, I can probably figure out the pronto hex for the discrete codes for you, or at least tell you how to create it.

Rob-

Here are (3) Yamaha discrete ON codes.... they ALL work.

I got the Excel spreadsheet from Yamaha customer service and have e-mailed you a copy.

Viscouse - Sorry, but as far I know the new codes will only apply to the RX-V800, 1000, & 3000. May be more but all Yamaha's talking about.

OK, what they have given you is the device and command codes in hex format, so 7A = device 122, and 1D = command 29, the format is the standard NEC protocol.

If you don't know how to format the NEC protocol, most of the IR utilities will handle it. A good one for creating commands one at a time is Glenn Clapp's IR Tool (he calls the NEC format "Kenwood / Yamaha").

Barry Gordon has written a utility called GenIR that will generate the pronto hex for all the commands for a given device code, you might want to check that one out.

If you want some hex quickly for a particular command, let me know which one and I'll create it.

Just FYI: if you try to use IR Tool to create the Pronto hex, there appears to be a bug in it as it is not formatting the device code compliment.

I have figured out a temporary workaround, use the following device codes as substitutes...

For device 122 use device 34170
For device 124 use device 33660
For device 126 use device 33150

You can verify the code once you've encoded it by immediately decoding it and it will show you the correct device codes.

Update!

Rob was nice enough to give me an off-forum IR decoding class, and after a couple rounds of e-mail his workaround works.

I've got this RX-V800 doing everthing but headstands. It will take me a day or 2 to wade through all the commands, but it does work and I'll post it when done.

Everybody say THANK YOU ROB...

Barry,

Just bought a RX-V1000 and looking forward to downloading your "extended" IR codes. Can you post a reply to this thread when you have sent your ccf?

Thank you Rob and Barry.

R.W.- e-mailed you a .ccf that's been fully tested on the RX-V800.. you should be ready to go. You are the (3) memory model.

Daryl - e-mailed you the same.. I generated all the codes that will apply to the RX-V1000, but you may have to change some of the labels on the surround modes. You're the big dog - you get (6) memories.

I've tested it pretty thoroughly, but you guys are the Beta testers. Here's what to expect:
(1) 3 or 6 definable volume memories... Start up your system at the same predefined volume each time. Discrete mute on/off.
(2) 3 or 6 "Home Bank" memories... Saves ALL receiver settings except volume for a (1) button recall.
(3) EVERY surround mode is discrete now, no more toggling within settings anymore.
(4) Discrete inputs and surround sound modes for AUTO, DIGITAL, DTS, ANALOG, and DD RF.
(5) All tuner presets are discrete, with a/b/c/d/e buttons and preset 1-8. Even discrete AM/FM bands and scan buttons.
(6) Discrete codes for 6.1 input on/off, and 6.1 ES on/off.
(7) Discrete speaker A & B on & off. On-screen display FULL, SHORT, and OFF. Sleep timer 120, 90, 60, 30, & off.
(8) I didn't test it, but it looks like fully discreet codes for ZONE 2... Power on/off, all inputs, volume, mute on/off.
(9) There is a DIAGNOSTIC on/off button. You might want to be careful... No documentation supplied...who knows?

The good news is you can do ANYTHING & EVERYTHING with these codes... there are 10 (!) panels of small buttons. The bad news is there is SO MUCH you can do that I'm going to have a new version of my complete .ccf's using Yamaha receivers.

Post your results-let me know how it turns out. I'll also post this thing for all you other beta-testers-to-be.

Barry,

I e-mailed some questions to you about some of the buttons. I'll repeat them here for others to benefit.

I think my RX-V1000 is still only 3 memory. Only the first 3 volume settings work. Maybe you have to go with the RX-V3000 before you can run with the big dogs. Three settings will still do what I need.

The other buttons I have questions about are the "Vol Bank-Main", Vol Bank-A through F and the Home Bank buttons. They seem to do the same thing as the Recall buttons.

Daryl
