Philips do NOT supply a warranty "card"

What SHOULD come with the units is:

Grey fronted user manual with SBC RU890 in top right corner. The manual should start in English then move into different European languages.

*** "World-wide guarantee" booklet ***. Small book with "4822 737 10206" on rear cover at bottom right, with the Pronto's serial number stuck to the center-bottom of the back cover

Pronto itself, packed in white thin foam bag, sealed.

PC cable

4 x AA batteries

If you get all this then the unit is surely new, if not then I would wonder...

Mike,

I don't know if there is a difference in marketing the silver or green model. I purchased the green model from mercata.com. I did get a warranty card in mine, included on my warranty card was an affixed sticker of the model number and serial number of my particular unit.

Yes there is a difference. I used to sell the US model myself and that DID have a warranty card that you completed and posted back. I think it's an American thing, that warranty cards are returned to the manufacturer. Here it is NOT the norm, and most people would return to their place fo purchase for any warranty issues.

I think the reason that you are seeing so many cheap Pronto's all of a sudden is because Philips is trying to get rid of all the old models before the new ones come out.

There is a color 2MB version just around the corner, so grab up a cheap model while you can.

If you don't want to deal with eBay, you can also get the Pronto for $265 (w/ free shipping) from http://www.etronixs.com

Regarding Mercata, I used my new customer credit to get $100 off the price of a ReplayTV Showstopper, and I received the unit 2 or 3 days later. If you think there is an expensive item (like $500) that you might want to buy through Mercata any time soon, it might be an idea to save that new customer credit for that purchase rather than wasting it on a Pronto where it'll only save you a few bucks over the prices at etronixs or IEC.

Rob the new Pronto (TSU2000) is not colour. It is the same as the old one (TSU1000) but with 2Mb of mem instead of 1Mb and a full set of IR codes for many devices and manufacturers.

I know about the colour Pronto but Rob is obviously talking about the TSU2000 and not the Pronto Pro.
The TSU2000 is replacing the TSU1000 (at least that is what it seems like) while I think the Pronto Pro will be its bigger brother.

Actually my message was meant for Rob as an add-on to yours, Anthony. Just to point out the difference.

hmm,

I was just reading this *entire* thread again and have concluded that all of the sbwoo, IEC, and mercata prontos are in fact new.

Who is "Eric" by the way? I hope he's not from IEC.

I cannot see why any supplier (myself included) would dump the 1mb Pronto. There's a LOT of life in the unit. I mean consider the % of people that actually ran of RAM on the existing model - not many I'd say.

Also consider that the price of the new 2mb Pronto (here in Europe, at least) is going to be some GBP65+ more expensive!

I think the two models could happily be sold next to each other for sometime to come.

Just my 2 pence worth ! :-)

bumping this thread to the top for people interested in the silver prontos.

Go check the eBay auctions. I got one of them for $230 shipped. I'm very satisfied. I deleted all of the unused space and have close to 85% memory free, but I'm controlling only 4 devices with only a few submenus.
