As far as I know there's quite a few silver Prontos being sold on EBay. Which one are you talking about?

If you're referencing the ones being sold by IEC...then Yes, I bought one (a few weeks ago for $259, doh!) as did one of my co-workers. They were very prompt, and the unit arrived as advertised, new in an unopened box. The unit was shipped on the same day as my order was verified and arrived in a timely manner in good shape.

cheers!

$239 is a good price.

I just bought one from "[email protected]". I received it today. It was brand new, in box, but it's probably "grey market", because it has no warranty card, and all documentation is for Europe - no US information at all. His shipping was amazingly fast - the auction ended on 10/12.

Don't know if color is a big factor for you. I just bought the dark green one today from a site called Mercata. $224 plus shipping. For my area, it was around 6 bucks or so. Apparently they give 20% off to new customers. I won't know how *good* they are until I recieve it. Which should be about mid week or so.

I bought one from [email protected] as well.
I haven't received it, but he sent me an email saying that he shipped it out today. I'll post when it arrives.

As Bill said, if color isn't important to you, you can get the black TS1000 by the following which I posted on another thread:

Go to www.ebates.com and sign up. Through ebates go to www.mercata.com and sign up. The Mercata price is $279.99, you get a 20% instant credit from Mercata and an eventual 5% credit from ebates. Final price = $213.00.

P.S. I've seen nothing but good feedback on Mercata on avsforum.com.

I got my DVD player from Mercata.com. I never had a problem with them. I got a Panasonic A120 for $180.

Friend of mine just had warranty service on his JBL subwoofer refused because the e-merchant- Mercata- was not an "authorized" dealer.

Use Mercata with caution.

I don't know about you guys....I am an installer of home audio systems and Home automation in my spare time and had the chance to purchase not a few Prontos and program them for my customers. I did buy couple of them from [email protected] on ebay and also from IEC Int'l about a month ago, and i can tell you this: [email protected] prontos are NOT the official silver pronto, it comes with no warranty certificate and no instructions in english! I don't know where they get them from but I can only assume, the price is too low too be new, as it semms to me, they are most likely repacked refubrished europen models!. So, forget about warranty!
My brother also ordered one from IEC International, (iecintl on eBay also) for $249.00 and the docking station for $49.00. The one he got comes in sealed box, instructions in English and the international certificate of warranty (they have it on sale now on their website [Link: promo-pro.com]

So, Guys, get real, is it possible to get a new item that cost $399.00 MSRP for around $200.00??? ask yourself!
As for mercata.com, who heard about them? Big company is the worst for you when you look into service issues.
In my opinion, it well worth a few bucks more to purchase new official pronto, warranty and customer service! I am not saying pay $400.00 this days, don't! but IEC has nice feedback rating, Toll free number and great customer service. For $249.00, I recommend to all.

Eric,

I can only speak for me, but Mercata did well for my order. I paid $224.00 + shipping (with the instant discount). It was at my doorstep a few days later in great shape and with a warranty card which I just filled out.

Eric,

You are correct. After I played with my Pronto, I realized that there wasn't any internation warranty "card." The box only contained the manual which is in English, the cable, and an international guarantee brochure, but no card to fill out my name or anything like that.

The Pronto does look brand new, though. I don't know what to say.
