i had help on this one. the suggestion which works for me is to put the tv in a "known state".
my tosh tv returns tv normal when selcting the "channel up" button. so if you want input 2,ie ext 2,
then programme pront button to do the following........
channel up, input select, input select.
its a bit long winded but it works!!!!!!

There are discrete codes available on this site.
I have the discrete video 1, 2, 3, 4, TV inputs for the Sony if you need them.

JOEC:

Do those codes work for all Sony tvs? My XBR only has one input button that allows me to go through the inputs but not allow me to pick a specific input.
