I have successfully had Pronto learn all of my remotes, except for the one that controls my Pioneer Elite 16x9 PRO-1009W monitor. Pronto does not respond to the signal from the Pioneer. The Pioneer uses an infrared remote control system. Any suggestions for a solution? Otherwise, I really like my Pronto!

There was some talk in other threads that Pioneer uses High Freq IR code and the pronto does not go that high. But the Pioneer will respond to older lower IR codes as well. An old Pioneer TV remote or inexpensive universal may have the IR codes you need. That's how I read it and I'm sorry if I did not get it quite right.

The Pronto will not work with any Pioneer Elite products. I talked to Marantz and that is one of the differences between the Pronto and the Marantz RC5000

Pioneer went "off the beaten track" for one year with their I/R code scheme. As you have stated, a higher (non-industry standard) carrier frequency.
I would guess that Xantech has some sort of solution in a translator although I can't tell you the model number. It would be a little box with an I/R sensor and emitter that I think could "map" a known code scheme back to the goofy Pioneer code scheme.
Also, info I have is that Philips is looking at some possibility to solving this through a possible software change, although this becoming reality is not confirmed at this time.

I would guess that your TV is about 3-4 years old?

I bought my monitor/TV last April. It was shipped new from Pioneer in Long Beach, CA. It is a Pioneer Elite PRO-1009W.

I have posed the problem to Philips via eMail at the Pronto Web site. No response yet. I also called Philips customer support last Friday at 888 486-6272; they promised I would get a call on Monday. No response there either.

Know any other way I can contact somebody in the know at Philips? By the way, where is Xantech? As you suggested a translator box might be a solution if Philips doesn't come through.

Thanks, Don

Xantech is in California (Southern I think). I would also check with Pioneer to verify that it is indeed high frequency that is the problem. I do also know that Philips engineering is aware of your problem and is considering the solutions, although I still think the question is what carrier frequency? Xantech may have the answer on this. I'm not sure but www.xantech.com might be worth a go. I'll also check at my end.

Well, someone from Philips made the comment that it's somewhat ironic that the Pronto can SEND high-frequency signals, it just can't LEARN them. So, a possible future fix is a downloadable profile for the PC interface, but of course that doesn't help the problem today.

I called Pioneer Customer Support in Long Beach today (Wed) and they said the remote for my Pioneer Elite operates at 1.4 megaHertz! No wonder dear old Pronto, lumbering along at a mere 56KHz, can't tune into the Pioneer Elite babble! The Pioneer people told me there are no plans to change frequencies. Can't get along without my 16x9 monitor. So until Philips comes up with a solution, guess I'll have to balance two remotes on my knee. Makes macroing a little awkward.

I am considering purchasing a Pronto, however, I own the Pioneer 57" 16x9 (not the elite). I purchased the Pioneer about 1 year ago 11/97. Does anyone know if the Pronto will learn the codes from my Pioneer remote? Is the problem above only with the elite model, or all Pioneer 16x9s? Thanks.

Got some new info about Pioneer Elite frequency codes. Yesterday, Pioneer customer support gave the 1.4 mHz number. This morning, Pioneer technical support said it's 40 kHz. The tech person said for the year 1997 Pioneer Elite used a high frequency (this tech gal didn't know the exact number), but subsequently 40 Khz is used. I don't know who to believe, but you'd think tech people would probably be more tuned in.

I do know this, however, Pronto will not respond to the Elite codes. No problem with my other remotes: Lexicon DC-1 processor/preamp, Pioneer 909 combi DVD/laser player, Ad-Com amplifiers and tuner, Rotel CD player, and Mitsubishi Super VHS VCR.

I don't know if the problem is exclusive to Elite 16x9 projection monitors.

I've found another device that the Pronto doesn't seem to get along with. RCA5500P DVD player's remote codes will not be learned. They fail every time. I can't find the remote freqs in any of the docs I have so I don't know if they are out of range. Anyone have any ideas?

I found a work around for the RCA5500 problem. I copied all the ir codes to another learning remote and then to the Pronto. Odd, but the Pronto wouldn't accept them directly.
