My two day old pronto no longer works. After downloading ProntoEdit, I ran the Update. I skipped saving the Pronto's current CCF file, since I hadn't yet configured anything. After following the onscreen instructions and resetting the pronto (which ProntoEdit recognized), the program responded saying the the update fail. Numerous clicks of the retry button had no effect. Now, my Pronto no longer works at all. both my COM ports work fine, and the ProntoEdit software recognizes them (it always responds to the Pronto's reset button). BTW, the only programs I have running at the time are Systray and Explorer.

I know that the Pronto's CCF file is corrupt (I get the four beeps after resetting), but ProntoEdit absolutely will NOT upload the new file to the Pronto. I'm at my wit's end. Anyone out there have any suggestions/secrets?

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems, stick with it though because the pronto is worth it!

I do have a few suggestions, but I am sure someone else will come up with better ones. I would suggest hitting the reset button on the back of the unit, I think you need to do that during an update of the OS (it has been a while) anyway, but it can't hurt.

I would also suggest touching the screen before you start the update to "wake it up". I don't know if that helps or not, but it is part of my voodoo like ritual for loading ccf files to the pronto.

I would also suggest waiting 30 seconds or so before trying the update again after a fail.

Here are a couple of threads that may help you out:

Good luck! Hope you get your pronto up and running soon.

After trying everything, including rebuilding my Windows 98 machhine (and never receiving a response from Philips tech support) I contacted my vendor, who is ordering a replacement unit for me.

To be honest, I'm a little leery of this whole thing happening all over again. I'm also angry at the Philips tech support dept. for not returning either of my phone calls.

Hi.

Initially, I had a lot of problems and thought it was the Pronto. BUT, gfound out my problem was with my computer. I had tried it on two different systems and neither would upload.

Finally, I set up a clean configuration is Windows 95 and it works fine. The software is pretty picky about the configuration. For exampl, if there is anything else in the system that accesses a com port it will not run. I had to disable the program that connects with my palm pilot.
