I recently got my pronto. At first I could not learn IR from remotes to the Pornto. It kept crashing, forcing a reset and saying configuration file was corrupted. I then started trying to learn through pronto edit. However, not all my codes learned in pronto edit actually got loaded into the Pronto. Trying to learn by the remotes again caused a crash. In short, trying to learn from the remotes crashes the unit and learning form ProntoEdit does not entirely work. I do not know what to try next. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Are you running the latest firmware?

Yes. I even re-installed and it did not solve the remote to remote crash problem. I was eventually able to get most of the codes learned through PE but some I still cant learn. With others it took 4 or 5 times to learn even though PE says the code was properly accepted. I gues I just have to keep learning throug PE until it takes. Any suggestions?

You said you have re-installed it - presumably you refer to ProntoEdit. But have you updated the firmware in the Pronto? i.e. from the Tools menu, run Update.

There aren't flourescant lights in the room are there ?
Have you tried a different room ?

You are pointing the remotes at Pronto's back (the bit facing AWAY from what you are controlling) ?

Try it without using ProntoEdit

In all my experience I have NEVER had a problem like this

Thank you all for your responses.
In answer to Peter's question, I re-installed the firmware. I downloaded it from the pronto edit web page and ran the installer updating the firmware. I have not re-installed PE but will try that next.

As for Mike's questions, there are no flourescant lights in the room. I have also tried it in two different rooms with the same results. The remotes are facing the proper direction. My main problem, is that I cannot learn without PE because the remote crashes and forces me to revert to factory settings.

I have got about 85-90 percent of the codes learned but not all of them. If I am succesfull learning the remaining codes, is this soemthing I should live with or does it sound like a defective unit?

I thank you all agin for your replies

Still serching for an aswer

I don't know exactly what would be causing this -- doesn't sound like quite the right symptoms for a defective remote.
