Has anyone tried to play around with On/Off Hughes DSS Codes?

From a previous post I was told that there weren't any discrete On/Off codes for the Hughes DSS receivers. This is really cramping my style.
Has anyone tried to play around with an IR code to create discrete on/off codes?
I downloaded and read the article on IR codes from this web site and it went way over my head.
If anyone can assist me, I'm willing to try playing around with the learned IR code in Pronto Edit.

The only other option I can think of is using an X10 controller for On/Off features. But this entails added cost (for the X10 controller, IR543, etc).
