After pulling out most of my hair, I finally downloaded the upgraded firmware and the Pronto works like a charm! No more sudden shut-downs,etc. Rebooting problem - history! If any of you use a PalmPilot with HotSynch, you MUST DISABLE hotsynch FIRST, or else you're Pronto will NOT communicate with your PC. Just go to the taskbar on the lower right corner where the time is displayed - right click(on HotSynch icon) - choose exit and you're on your way to Pronto heaven. Don't forget, each time you need to upload or download with ProntoEdit - DISABLE HOTSYNCH! Hotsynch automatically re-engages when you place your Palm into its cradle, attach its cable and you're ready to Palm!
Thanks to all who made suggestions and tried to help!!

Not entirely true.

You only have to disable HotSync if you swap the Pronto cable with the Palm cradle (nice rhyme, no?), on the same comport. HotSync will hold the port so the Pronto software won't be able to open it, therefore it must be disabled.

Both will reside happily if each is on it's own port (i.e. one on COM1, the other on COM2). Check your computer manual - most PCs come w/ 2 ports.

Paul is right.

My wife's Palm and the Pronto are perfectly fin ein the two separate COM ports on my PC.

Ken,

No problems with my Palm V and my Pronto coexisting, they are each on their own Com port. Dave

And when you do have it on the same port, then you can set up HotSync so that it'll only start when you have Palm Desktop running.

Guys, All I can tell you is that I could not get my Pronto to upload and download w/o turning HotSynch off on my Thinkpad. I guess I don't have my com-ports set up properly to have them run seperately. To be honest, I'm not sure how to do that (Thinkpad challenged!).
