I am looking into stepping up from 50 remotes to the Pronto, but I just read that they are working on a new color model that should be released late this fall. Should I go ahead and get the current Pronto (is there a 2MB model like the RC5000i?) or should I wait for the new model? I hate waiting, but I also hate buying something over a year old.

I would wait two years, and hope they have a model that reads minds.

Bryan, what do you want us to say? The color (colour) version is twice as expensive. Buy one or two? Now or later? DO YOU WANT ONE NOW?

We're dying to know, cause I hope this answered your question, now or later? I didn't mean to be mean.

Bryan, I suppose that a person can wait indefinitely for the latest version of a product. As soon as you purchase it, there'll be a new model on the horizon. At what point do you say to yourself, "I'm gonna go for it and be happy with what I get"?
I would expect the colour version to be worth considerably more than the current version, so that would be a big consideration in itself. Are you willing to pay more than the current Pronto price? Will colour actually improve the Pronto to such a degree that the price increase will be worth paying? Then there's the issue with brand new products and their inevitable teething problems. Will you unwittingly become a beta tester for the colour pronto (it will probably be a stable product - but who knows. Vendors often release products before all of the bugs have been ironed out to gain market share etc etc).
Anyway - just some considerations for you.

Bryan, The Floydsters advice is much more sound than mine. Please don't pay any attention to me (really). I know whe I've been outadvised. Sometimes I think I'm funny.

It probably won't be out this fall. More like from January to March 2001.
What I find kind of ironic is that most of the teething problems with the current Pronto occurred on updated parts. My original remote has no hardware problems. Even the first version of ProntoEdit was fine, though certainly not user friendly (then again they haven't changed that yet either).

Pretty funny Norm-ie....I guess my initial message sounded kind of unsure. What I was trying to get at was should I buy a remote that has been out almost 2 years and contains a feature set that will likely have been enhanced considerably in the newer color model that will be released soon. Given Daniels' comment that it won't be out until Q1 2001, I think my mind has been made up.
Is there a 2MB Pronto model like the RC5000i? Or is the Marantz RC5000i the one I should track down?
