Is there a way to copy an IR code from a button of another persons .ccf file to a button in my .ccf file? It would be of some future help to me Im sure.

I believe this can be accomplished with a "merge". Open up your CCF, then open the CCF file containg the button you want to copy. ProntoEdit will promt you to "replace or merge", if you answer merge it will add the CCF to your CCF. Viola you now have the IR code you wanted. If you only want the one IR code strip the CCF down as far as possible before the merge. Make sure the code isn't an alias (look for "learned" under actions).

Whoops, forgot to add, I'm sure Daniel can correct me if I'm wrong.

That'll work, but you'll also get the rest of the file along with it. You can "copy" buttons between CCFs with the COPY command (open CCF that has the signal, select button, copy it, open new CCF, paste button). Or just copy the hex of the signal.

The Pronto's "clipboard" is specific to that application. It would be nice if you could open up two sessions of ProntoEdit and copy stuff between them, but that doesn't work.

Thanks ErikS and Daniel. Copying the button did the trick except Its not the button type I would like to use. Is there a way to change the button now without loosing the code? I would also like to know how to just copy n paste the hex code only, any Ideas?

OK, I went back and played around a little more and figured out a wat to copy and paste the hex code itself. It worked too! :) thanks

To copy just the button image hold down the ALT key while dragging the new image on top of the old.

I'd appreciate pointers on how to paste a hex code directly onto a button. I haven't had much of a chance to play around with it yet, so perhaps I'll stumble across the answer tonight. But if not, any help would be appreciated.

Well, you have to open the button's properties, double-click on the learned signal (if one isn't there just learn a dud) then delete the box's contents, then CTRL-V to paste the copied text.

Daniel,

To make the process a little easier, I made ProntoEdit 'preselect' the entire hex code. Therefore, you can skip the delete step and simply do a paste to replace the current hex code with the one in the clipboard.

Also, in stead of learning a dummy code, you can also insert a dummy RC5, RC6 or RCMM code. This is a little faster.

Regards,

Jan

Jan: Thanks for the pointers. I forgot about the text pre-selecting (been a while since I pasted any codes). Also, since I have no RC5/6 capable equipment I never tried that. You learn something new every day! :-)

Thanks. I managed to stumble across the solution to pasting hex codes while playing with ProntoEdit last night. Unfortunately, it appears that the on/off codes I was trying to paste (discrete on/off from a Panasonic A310 DVD) don't work with my older A300 DVD. I'm guessing that it doesn't support discrete on/off, but perhaps once I learn more about the hex codes I'll do some experimentation.

Thanks Daniel and Jan Van, the way I first figured it out was by doing it the way Jan Van Ee stated above, it was simple. It just took me a little tinkering to find the hex box, after that using a RC5/6 code came to me quick

Scott, Try your play IR command to turn on your DVD player. This works for most DVD players. Then to turn the DVD player off issue a macro of Play, then toggle power. Good luck!

Scott:

Post some sample hex codes for your A300 (such as power toggle and play) and the hex codes that you're trying to use as power on/off. It may be as simple as changing the frequency of the new commands (the second set of 4 digits).

I have written a program that will generate all possible codes for a given device. To use it, you have to understand enough about hex codes to determine the device code (or you can use one of the other existing utilities to do it for you). Once you have all the possible codes, you can try them 1 at a time to see if there are separate on and off codes (just be aware that some of the codes could have undesirable results). The program was sent to Remote Central a couple of hours ago, so it should be available within the next day or 2.
