Having seen the features added to the new firmware for the RC5000, I am desperate for the Pronto version to be released. (I *really* want the ability to customise the hard keys in a Macro panel - I have plans for it... ;-) )
Does anyone have any idea when Philips are likely to release new firmware? Is it likely to be before the Q1 2001 release of the colour Pronto?
Failing that, I have a cunning plan. Theoretically, the hardware of the Pronto and the RC5000 is the same internally, otherwise they wouldn't both have originally been able to run the same firmware. Presumably, there is some awkward hardware flag inside that tells the software whether the remote is a Pronto or an RC5000, and the firmware decides whether or not to run accordingly. So, what is to stop someone with an awful lot of time on their hands hacking the firmware to just ignore this flag? I know it's easier said than done, but it must be possible, surely?

I believe that's what the old Pronto-on-a-RC5000 firmware hack did. I doubt it's a hardware flag, probably something unique in the boot code. I haven't heard anything on when a new ProntoEdit version will be available, or what it may (or may not) include.
