I have programed in the discrete codes for my equipment. One thing that's happening now in my "watch DVD" macro is, the DVD player will turn on and then shut it self off during this power up of all required euipment. This happens randomly and some times it will remain on. What I don't understand is why this is happening with the discrete on in the macro only. If I go to the component power (left side of the Pronto Menu) and select DVD on, which by the way aliases the same IR code button as the one in the "watch DVD" macro, it turns on every time with out the same associated problems as in the macro routine.
I have juggled placement in the macro command chain from first to last and in between I have also increased delay times before the "DVD ON" command to no avail. I have tried to take out some other commands that I thought might be causing the DVD to turn off, such as my "XBR volume - " command, no good, it's still 80/20 percent. The only thing I can attribute it to is an unreliable discrete code, though that does not explain why it works on the left side Pronto " DVD ON" command. I got the code from RC and it did state that the code was not for the S500D. Mine is not an S500D, but a S550D.
Ideas?

I wish I could offer help, but I have the exact same problem. I also have a 550 sony DVD and have noticed this. One question, is there any difference when there is a disc in the player and when there is not? I've wondered if the player is not actually turning off, but is instead just not displaying anything since there is no disc. I have NOT tested this however, nor have I put even as much time as you have in trying to figure this out. I do have my old Radio Shack 1994 remote with a discrete on/off for my Sony DVD. If all else fails I'll learn it from that. And if that works I'll post the code for you.
Cheers, John

Well, I have a 850D and it does exactly what's described here a few times (turns it on then off). I don't know why but I think it's a hardware bug with Sony, don't you think?

John, I though the same thing that maybe if a disc was inside it was turning it off. I then took the disc out and ran the macro again. It started no problem and I though tthis was it. I cycled it a few times and it started fine. Then it it went south and started to shut down again. It's a 80% chance that it'll shut down. So I don't think it's the disc in the drawer causing the problem.
Simon I would like to believe it's a bug in the hardware, but why does it consistantly turn on with the single programed on button that uses the same alias as the macro command?
When i get home today I'm going to try using the play button to execute the on command, as you all know pressing play will turn on the player as well.

Did you try substituting the play command for on. With sony dvd's this will act like a discrete on and maybe will be more reliable.
Hope this helps

The Play command works fine so far, better than the discrete on I think.
Thanks every one
