Guys
I've had the Pronto and ProntoEdit now for a while and have pretty much mastered it. Hence I want to progress onto using IRDatabase to more logically store the codes.
I think I've missed something somewhere in the beginning that gets me going, but I'm having the following problems:
- When I click on the IRDatabase button in ProntoEdit, it crashes the software. - I'm not sure how to get started with IRDatabase - Do I need MSAccess installed? - Do I need to run ProntoEdit and IRDatabase at the same time?
Just a few thoughts. Like I say, it's just the getting started that I'm having trouble with - as soon as I've sorted that, I'm sure I'll be in business.
Any tips greatly recommended.
Cheers

A lot of people have reported similar problems with clicking the IRDB button. It works fine for me. I don't think anyone has reported a fix. I have Office installed so that might be the difference.
If you think about it a bit, you don't gain all that much by having your codes in the database. You've already got all your codes in your CCF. If you have ste it up the way many of us do, then you would have separate devices in your CCF just for your codes. So you already have a library.
IRDatabase is only of real use if it shared with others and contains a library of heaps of devices. Then you could just download the latest library.

I kinda agree with PeterD. If you have all your raw codes learned on hidden panels, then using the database doesn't gain you much.
That being said, I did put all my raw remote codes into the irdatabase...
Getting started with irdatabase probably means reading all the threads dedicated to it for starters.
I didn't know that prontoedit had an irdatabase button. Hum. In setting up my database, I shut down prontoedit and started irdatabase. Read in my CCF and set up the new devices and codes in the database. There are some tricks to doing this correctly that you should be able to find in other threads. One such trick is making sure each device function has a unique function number. After completing my database I shut down the irdatabase program and started up prontoedit. It didn't seem to be a good idea to have these two programs running at the same time.
Irdatabase quirk #1. I had trouble writing out the data file for each of my individual components. I found that it was trying to put them into the "wrong" place. The program has a directory in which the individual data files reside. It was trying to write into another directory that did not exist. So I created this directory. And after it created the data file, I moved it to the correct place.
Irdatabase quirk#2. Sometimes after closing the database file it will give an error when you try to exit the program and refuse to let you exit. I "solved" this by rebooting which didn't seem to have any adverse affects on the contents of my database file.
BTW - I'm running windows '98 with MS Office installed.

Cheers guys - I was getting around to that way of thinking, that I just create a library of all buttons and discrete codes in hidden panels (shame you can't hide entire devices) and using that as my database.
The IRDatabase button in ProntoEdit I was referring to was on the dialog when you're defining the actions for a button (with delay, beep, learn IR, etc.). When I click it, ProntoEdit crashes.
I too am running office, but only Standard (without Access).
I'll go play some more with it and see how far I can get before I break it again. Thanks for your time.

I am new to the Philips Pronto Remote Control. I am looking for the IR codes for the following equipment if anyone would be good enough to help me I would appreciate this. SLV690HF (Sony Hi-Fi VCR) I could not find it I know someone has it. PD-F59 (Pioneer Elite CD Changer) I couldn't find any IR codes to go with it.
