I just tried downloading pronto edit and can't launch without getting the "prontoedit.exe is linked to missing export MFC42.dll : 6880" error. The procedure described by Smart Connect isn't helping. Any suggestions?

I'm having exactly the same problems. Have tried the fix-its suggested by Smart Connect. No go.... I would also appreciate any help here.

Can you be more specific. Have you actually updated MFC42.dll?

I have four MFC42.dll files located in several directories:
1) windows\system\MFC42.dll (06/09/97) 2) program files\ispalm\MFC42.dll (09/01/99) 3) orawin95\shrdll\system\MFC42.dll (06/19/96) 4) siebel\bin\MFC42.dll (11/17/99)
The first file is the one I did not rename. The SmartConnect procedure implied that by renaming all of these files ("MFC42_OLD.dll") and then reinstalling ProntoEdit I should have ended up with an appropriate version. I have not taken any other action to update the file.

Boot up into DOS Mode. rename each instance of the file to MFC42_old.dll. Then copy siebel\bin\MFC42_old.dll to windows\system\MFC42.dll Reboot and it should be fine.

Still no luck. I followed Andrew's suggestion, and successfully copied the newest MFC42 file from the Siebel directory to the Windows\System directory. I still get the same error. What next?

I had the same problem. Called Philips (number listed in manual). The gentleman I spoke to walked me through the process. If I remember correctly, there were two copies of the dll file you mentioned. I don't remember the entire solution, so I would suggest you give them a call. They helped me.

I've been having this problem for months. Do a search on Mfc42.dll. There are quite a few suggestions. I just don't know how to perform any of them without step by step instructions. I uninstalled ProntoEdit because it attached itself to alot of files, it also made my game controller inoperable. I renamed the file at least 6 times. each time I renamed it ,it would work for a day or so and then quit. Re-naming it is probably the worst thing to do. Hope this spares some grief.

do exactly what ken said to do, and then reinstall your software. when you boot up the first time after renaming the dll files, you may have to "press any key to continue".
