Hi,

I have my new pronto and have pronto edit. I have downloaded ccf's for my equipment. I am just feeling overwhelmed I dont know what to do from here. The ccf's I downloaded have alot of equipment which I do not. If I delete something it messes up the rest of the menus. And If I just delete one button and try to move another to make the panel look nice, the button will not fit like it did before. It jumps around and will not allow me to place it where it should go.
Is any of this making sense?

Here is my equipment:
Sony STR-DA777ES Receiver
Sony SAT-A2 Direct Tv Receiver
Toshiba SD-6200 DVD
Magnavox 27" (soon to be replaced with RPTV)
Magnavox CD player

Is there a help page I can read? On what to do with CCF's and what all the properties tabs are within a button? I cant seem to find anything but a FAQ. Which in my situation does not help.

Is there a way to just save the part of the ccf's I want to keep like the dvd or vcr etc and delete the rest. I like some of the panels people have made. And would like to use them and the menus. Do I just get the panels and menus and then learn each button from the original remote? Or are the learned functions part of the ccf?

Im a computer tech by trade, but am having a hard time with pronto edit. Not nearly as easy as I had hoped. I need someone to point me to a web page or a direction to go with getting my pronto setup.

Any help is appreciated!!
Corey

Did you download the userguide from prontoedit? I downloaded some CCF's, but allways delete everything I dont want before I merge into my prontoedit. Sure it does need a little adjusting once you add the new device.
Jack.
PS I never merge someones home device page.

You started too big. You've got the tools and the solutions, but don't know what problems to solve.

Start from scratch. Load the default CCF back into your Pronto. Read the Pronto user manual cover to cover. Then read it again, this time following the instructions to program your devices into it. You can delete unused devices and buttons, and you can add buttons for the commands you want. Don't worry about how pretty it all looks. Just get your codes into the pronto.

Simply get your Pronto working with all your equipment. Use it for awhile, and think about what you might do to it to make using it easier. Make a list of the "problems" you want to solve and the improvements you'd like to see in the interface.

Then read the prontoedit user guide. It explains how to merge CCFs together, copy graphics from one button to another, cut and paste IR commands, etc.. Knowing all this you can merge CCFs with the layouts and graphics you want into your own. Then simply copy those graphics onto your buttons. Any reorganization of devices, panels, and buttons can be done too. Delete anything from the merged CCF that you don't need or want. Don't try to copy the logic they use. You'll be best off devising your own as it fits your style of interaction with the pronto.

I'm a college professor. I teach architecture/design classes ranging from freshmen level to graduate level. I've yet to meet a student who can do graduate level work before he/she has gotten an undergraduate degree. Build your basics knowledge. Then advance to the more complicated concepts. Worked for me.

Dave has given excellent advice. Start simple, then figure out what you want Pronto to do. Getting it to function as you wish is then easy. Stated simply: form follows function.

Thanks alot everyone. I will go forward as you suggest. So my understanding is I will want to use possibly the panel layout and bmp's, but not the code associated with it. Then program the buttons myself. I have gotten the manual and have read it. I will try to use others layouts for my needs.

Much appreciated.
Corey
