Best thing to do is take two aspirin and call yourself in the morning, if anyone is home.

geoff, I'd be happy to help - but help with what?

Your note says that your note is short, that you think you're a dummy, that you think one of those things is better than something (no hint as to what that something might be), and that this is all because you recently smashed your "angle" (perhaps you meant, "ankle"?). Something getting smashed is usually a bad thing, yet you say it's the best thing you've ever done.

Quite frankly, none of it makes the least bit of sense, and there's certainly nothing there to tell anyone what you might need help with. Yes, to be a comic, I followed your bit of nonsense with a bit of my own nonsense, so perhaps I am indeed a ----!!!!.

My apologies for offending you. Do you own, or are you considering acquiring, a Pronto or RC5000 remote control? If so, what can we help you with?

geoff, something just occurred to me. Based on the subject of your message, you may have been asking which is better, the Pronto or the TC1000? The answer would be that they are the same. "TC1000" is the model number of the Philips "Pronto" remote control.

If you meant to ask which is better, the Philips TC1000 Pronto, or the Marantz RC5000, you can read about the differences in the RC5000 FAQ (frequently asked questions) at [Link: remotecentral.com]. The remotes are essentially, but not completely, the same.

On the surface, the regular Pronto is dark bluish green in color (and its color is solid throughout the plastic), while the RC5000 is painted gold. (The silver Pronto is also painted.)

The charging base is optional for the green and silver Prontos, and only comes in silver. A gold charging base is included with the Marantz RC5000.

The warrantees among those models vary somewhat. You can read the above mentioned FAQ, plus the FAQ at [Link: remotecentral.com] to learn more about that and the slight differences in features. Plus you can do a search of this forum for "warrantee" and "warranty".

Only you can determine which is better for you - green, silver or gold.

Personally, I prefer, just slightly, the featureset of the green and silver Philips models over the gold Marantz. I don't like the color of the green Pronto at all, but do like the fact that the color is solid throughout the plastic - scratches and wear won't show as easily.

Hope that helped.

Actually, the Pronto model # is TS 1000 and not TC 1000. I'm sorry to be a pain, but I believe that I am correct.
If I'm incorrect, do not hesitate to tell me.
Respectively submitted--wish I knew the operation of the unit as well as I know the model #!

M.A.J., you are absolutely correct. Thank you for correcting me. That's what I get for writing at 2am (stopping on the way from dozing on the couch to flopping into bed). The TC1000 is the Harmon/Kardon/Microsoft Take Control, not the Pronto.

geoff, if that's what you were asking - which is better, the Pronto TS1000 or the Take Control TC1000 - the Pronto is better. The Take Control may have a nicer looking/feeling software interface, but that's about it. The important stuff - the functionality and the remote itself are better.

Geez, that was a lot easier than choosing among the different Pronto models. Think I'll go back to bed...

geoff, if you read messages in both the Pronto/RC5000 forum and the H/K forum, you'll see a big difference. I just took a quick look over there for you, and found this thread. You'll see what I mean.
